How To Catch Ditto In Pokemon Go – It Isn’t Easy

Published:

Ditto is a strange sort of creature. If you’ve seen Detective Pikachu, you’ll know what I mean… But how to catch Ditto is an important question. Aside from their strange, lifeless eyes, they’re pretty good in a fight! Here’s all you need to know below…

How To Catch Ditto
Firstly, what the fuck Detective Pikachu?! Thanks for the nightmares.

Ditto is annoying to get, simply put. Not impossible, though, but damn near a bloody good pain. Over the years (I know! Pokemon GO is old now, huh), there have been a few research tasks that need you to catch a Ditto. These can be easy to dismiss, but it’s worth the reward if you have a couple available that you can complete with just one pesky Ditto!

The first thing you need to know is where a Ditto can be hiding. It’s currently just about impossible to see one out in the wild, so finding one disguised as another Pokemon is the only way to get one.

How To Catch Ditto – Who Can They Be?

Below is a list of all the Pokemon Ditto currently appears as, so you can better tailor your search for them!

Generation One

  • Weedle
  • Paras
  • Venonat
  • Voltorb

Generation 2

  • Hoothoot
  • Ledyba
  • Spinarak
  • Hoppip
  • Remoraid

Generation 3

  • Seedot
  • Whismur
  • Gulpin
  • Skitty
  • Numel

Generation 4

  • Bidoof

Generation 5

  • Foongus

I’m Fighting A Lousy Bidoof, What Next?

When catching one of these Pokemon, the most important thing is to make sure you stick with it until the end. A Ditto will only appear at the end of the Catch Screen. Rather than the ‘ Gotcha! ‘ message that might appear above the PokeBall, you’ll see an ‘ Oh? ‘ instead. From here, a Ditto should pop out and reveal himself!

Unfortunately, there aren’t any Ditto-specific tips to catching them, as it’s purely based on luck. The only thing that can be said is that the Ditto spawn is the same for everyone, so if someone you know catches a Ditto nearby, you’ll be able to grab one from the same Pokemon, provided you can get there and catch it!

Other than that, it’s just a free-for-all… Make sure you’re using Incense and Lures to maximize the amount of Pokemon you can see, though! The worst part is, you can’t even hatch them from eggs. So, don’t bank on that 10k Egg being it.
