Every gamer at some point regretted their in-game name. It could be because the name is old and irrelevant or just because it was created on the go. One way or another the time has come to change it and this guide will explain how to do it in League of Legends.
Riot ID vs Summoner Name
Let’s break down the types of names you have when playing League with your Riot Games account.
- Riot ID (which is NOT your login) is used as a display name on the website and in other games like Legends of Runeterra and VALORANT. Riot ID could be anything you want, it doesn’t have to be unique as it is followed by a tag (just like Discord’s name).
- Summoner Name is exclusive to League of Legends. When logging in for the first time you will be asked to create a unique username that will be displayed on the top of your character when playing.
Changing Summoner Name
If you are reading this your objective most likely is to change Summoner Name. We will discuss how to change Riot ID a bit later.
Finding the option for this task is not that obvious. It is not on any website or settings of the game, it is located in the in-client store. Yeah, you heard that right, in the store.
In League of Legends client press the coins icon on the top right. After that navigate towards the “Account” tab which is the furthest to the right (an icon with a person and a gear). Here you can buy two things – region change for your account (as it is locked to the one you chose when registering) or a Summoner Name Change.
The cost of Summoner Name Change is 1300 RP or 13900 BE. The option of buying it for the Blue Essence is nice but expensive unless you are a veteran player with tons of Blue Essence. The price of 1300 RP doesn’t look that menacing, you can get RP in the following bundles –
- 730 RP – £5
- 1460 RP (+60 bonus) – £10
- 2190 RP (+140 bonus) – £15
- 2920 RP (+160 bonus) – £20
- 5110 RP (+370 bonus) – £35
- 7300 RP (+620 bonus) – £50
Now you can purchase the name change and come up with something you (hopefully) won’t regret in the nearest future.
Changing Riot ID
To change Riot ID you have to go to your Riot Account settings. And in the first tab “Riot ID” you can change both Riot ID and the following tagline. It gives you full freedom on how to be displayed in the online world. Note that you can change your Riot ID once every 30 days.
