How to defeat Basim in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is one of the more common questions players have. It can be a little confusing compared to other fights as the boss doesn’t have a health bar, so players can’t really visualize their progress.
Although the fight against Basim during the “A Brother’s Keeper” mission stands out from others in the game, it’s not as difficult as it may seem. The best way to track progression is through the distinct phases of the battle. To help, in this guide we’ve broken down the fight into four phases with instructions on how to progress through each one.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Basim Fight – Phase One
Phase two begins with Basim raising the platform where the fight has been taking place. After the platform starts rising he will begin attacking with special attacks that should be dodged. It isn’t possible to parry these glowing yellow attacks so be sure to time dodges correctly.
During this phase, it’s important to be patient and wait for an opening between the special attacks. Attack Basim as much as possible between the special attacks while being mindful of him starting the fightback again.
At this point, Basim also throws glowing yellow projectiles. These are easy enough to dodge if you’re paying attention. Once enough damage has been done, players will get the option to stun attack Basim. This starts a second cutscene and marks the end of phase two.
Once the cutscene has ended, phase three will begin. Fortunately, this next part is the easiest so far, since it’s just a chase as Basim attempts to make his escape. In true Assassin’s Creed style, players will need to run, jump and climb through the cavern complex in order to catch him.
Be sure to eat the yellow winter chanterelle that is conveniently placed along the path in order to restore lost health and rations. The path to Basim is quite linear so don’t worry about going in the wrong direction. Once players arrive at the opening with the glowing yellow circle the final phase of the fight will start.
The Final Phase
After another cutscene, Basim will once again stand and fight. The arm that Eivor injured during the last cutscene now glows yellow. This is the boss’s weak spot for the final stage of the battle. Focus all attacks and energy on hitting his weak spot as that’s all that is necessary to take him down, and use arrows to hit the weak spot if possible.
This is easiest when he falls to the ground exhausted. Once players successfully damage Basim’s weak arm he will be vulnerable to a stun attack like earlier in the fight. Simply stun attack him to begin the final cutscene and defeat him once and for all.
