How to Get Cases in CS:GO

Updated:

Will it be a Redline? Or a grey piece of garbage that you will never use? That is something you might ask when opening CS:GO cases if you get them. If you don’t you can easily get them on the Steam Community Market or as a weekly drop.

Steam Community Market

The easiest way to get cases in CS:GO is to buy them at the Steam Community Market. You can get whichever case you like and most of them are quite cheap. Needless to say that there are always thousands of cases available for purchase at any moment.

To buy a CS:GO case from a Steam Community Market:

  1. Launch Steam
  2. Hover over the “Community” menu at the top and click “Market”
  3. In the game list on the right select “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive”
  4. Some of the cases will be presented to you straight away but for the full list search for the “case” word in the search bar on the right

This will show you all the cases currently in the game that are for sale. Apart from cases, there are also Souvenir packages, sticker capsules, and a few other things that might be of interest to you.

To search for them, go to the “Show advanced options” on the right. In the new window find the “Type” section at the very bottom and select “Container”. Now you can see all the container type items that can be purchased in CS:GO.

When you found the case you want to buy, open it and scroll down to the buy and sell buttons. Here you can see what’s the lowest price currently available for the case and how many are available. You can either buy what’s already there or put an order for a lower price.

Enter the amount you wish to pay and how many cases you want to buy. Keep in mind that if you put down an order you might have to wait a while until that price becomes available.

Weekly Drops

A free option to get cases in CS:GO is by simply playing the game. Every week you are entitled to two drops that you can get by completing a match. As a drop, you can get a case, a skin, or graffiti which makes the chance of getting the case quite low.

The pool of drops that you can get is also limited and always changing (but always includes the latest case). The current case drop pool consists of:

  • Revolution Case
  • Recoil Case
  • Dreams & Nightmares Case
  • Snakebite Case
  • Fracture Case

All the other cases can still drop but are considered Rare drops with a 1% probability of receiving them after a completed game.

The drops are not limited to any game mode so the fastest one to play will be Deathmatch. But you can always play Casual, War Games or even Competitive to get drops.

Note: You can’t get weekly drops if you don’t have Prime Status purchased. Drops and a couple of other features are exclusive to Prime players.

CS:GO Operations

The last way for you to get cases is by playing occasional CS:GO operations. Operations usually happen once a year and last for a few months. During operations, you can complete missions to earn stars and then spend them on skins and cases.

Currently, there are no Operations available in CS:GO and it is unclear when the next one will take place. With the possible Source 2 update coming soon to CS:GO we can likely expect an Operation a few months after the update at the very least.
