Trying to figure out how to get eggs in Raft? Yeah, it’s not as self-explanatory as you might think. You’re going to be poaching a chicken-turkey creature from an island using a Net Launcher and keeping it on your raft like some sort of sick kidnapper – harvesting this poor chicken for its eggs.
To get eggs in Raft, you need to capture a Clucker from a large island. If you provide your Clucker with grass, it will produce an egg every four to six minutes.
Of course, there’s a lot more to getting eggs in Raft than that. Let’s dive into it in a bit more detail.

How to Get Eggs in Raft
Figuring out how to get eggs in Raft is a painstaking process. Not only is it slow, but this particular step is tedious beyond belief. You see, to get eggs you need a Clucker. To catch a Clucker, you need a Net Launcher. For the Net Launcher, you need a Net Cannister, and to get a Net Cannister you need Explosive Powder.
Research Explosive Powder
To get Explosive Powder you will need to smelt Explosive Goo. Explosive Goo drops from Poison-Puffer fish – each of which only has a 33% chance of dropping more than one goo per fish.
Puffers are yellow and hostile fish, meaning they’re going to attack you. They actually act a lot like Creepers from Minecraft. In that, they will get close to you and explode, but if you back up while they’re exploding, they will stop. Once you kill it, it will inflate to explode – back up and it will return to normal and go upside down. You can then loot it for guaranteed Explosive Goo.
Once you have Explosive Goo (at least two), head back to your raft. Place the Goo in a Smelter and wait for it to turn into Explosive Powder. You can then research it. At this point in the game, you’ll likely have already researched everything else you need for Explosive Cannisters and the Net Launcher, so you should be able to go ahead and unlock both of them.
Craft a Net Launcher and Net Cannister
Once you go through the miserable experience of getting your hands on Explosive Powder, you’ll need to gather a few more materials in order to craft the Net Launcher and at least one Net Canister.
For the Net Launcher, you’ll need:
- 2 Scrap
- 4 Plastic
- 1 Metal Ingot
- 2 Bolts
Each Canister also requires:
- 1 Explosive Powder
- 4 Ropes
- 4 Stones
Most of those materials are super easy to get your hands on. Explosive Powder, on the other hand, is extremely limited. So, make a point of gathering it any time you disembark to loot a large island.
Clucker-Proof Your Raft
You’ve got a little bit of work to do so that your raft is Clucker-proof. You wouldn’t go out and get a dog if your house wasn’t safe for one, so why would you do the same with a pseudo-chicken?
There are two things to worry about regarding baby-proofing your raft for your new feathered friend:
- Build an enclosure so it doesn’t walk off the raft’s edge.
- Set up a grass plot so it doesn’t starve.
Building an enclosure is simple, but very necessary. You see, all the friendly animal AI in this game doesn’t exactly account for the edge of your raft. So, there’s a very good chance that they’ll just walk straight into the water. Needless to say, they can’t swim and will die in the ocean.
Create an enclosure, by walling off an area of your raft. Using gates and a fence gate would be the most optimal idea. Build a decent size area for your animals before you go out hunting.
After the enclosure is built, you’ll need a grass plot to get eggs in Raft. Hungry Cluckers produce no eggs, after all. For grass plots, you need to research dirt, which you get by digging up dirt piles on islands with a shovel. Grass plots serve as food for your animals. You’ll need to manually water the grass plot, but to avoid micromanaging that I would recommend you set up a sprinkler next to it.
Find a Large Island and Capture a Clucker
After getting all that stuff and crafting an enclosure, it’s time to go hunting. Set sail and keep your eyes open for a large island. Once you find one, leave your raft far enough away from the island to distract the shark, anchor down, throw out some shark bait, and swim your way over to the island.
Given that we’re dealing with large islands, you can expect to run into Warthogs and Screechers, so prepare your weaponry accordingly.
Cluckers are pretty rare in terms of their spawn. It’s not too unusual to only find one on an entire island. You’ll know when you find it because it looks like a large, strange, chicken-turkey creature.
Cluckers run away from you when you get close to them. However, they all run in a set path. Observe the path that the Clucker is taking for a minute or two and you’ll be able to predict, and fire at, wherever it’s going to go.
Once you’ve trapped the Clucker in the net, you’ll be able to pick it up with your interact key. Keep in mind that you actually pick it up, as in you’ll hold it, so you can’t use anything else while your arms are full. The Clucker is tamed at this point so it won’t run away from you, but it’s still something to keep in mind.
Bring the Clucker Back to Your Raft and Wait
At this point, you need to pick your Clucker up and carry it back to your raft. You can also name it if you want to.
The only real difficulty with getting the Clucker from the island to the raft is dealing with the shark. You won’t have access to your spear, so you’ll just have to take the damage as you swim back. Even if you anchored down a far distance away from the island, you shouldn’t struggle to stay alive here.
Throw your Clucker in your enclosure, and then it’s just a waiting game. Your Clucker will lay an egg every four to six minutes, provided there’s grass for it to eat. All you have to do is wait for that, then pick the eggs up. Rinse and repeat – and you have yourself a handy little egg farm in Raft.
