What is Truffle Oil in Stardew Valley?
Truffle oil is classified as an artisan good that requires an oil maker and Truffle. It is one of the most valuable items to sell in the game as its quality does not affect the price. Truffle oil is priced at a flat 1,065 gold, and if you have the Artisan profession unlocked, you will get 1,491 gold for each unit sold.
Players also need Truffle oil for the Mayor’s Need quest, which requires you to deliver one unit of Truffle oil to Mayor Lewis. The quest rewards you with a friendship heart as well as 750 gold.
In addition to the above quests, you can also donate Truffle oil to the Community Center if you want to complete the Artisan bundle in your Pantry. Truffle oil is also an ingredient needed to craft rain totems.
If you do not have access to an oil maker or pigs before Farming Level 8, you can still sell Truffles for gold and earn money. Here are prices for Truffles depending on their quality:
Normal – 625g
Silver – 781g
Gold – 937g
Iridium – 1250g
You can sell Iridium quality Truffles to make money until you access your first oil maker.
Truffles can be found only by pigs, and unlike other animal products in Stardew Valley, pigs do not make Truffles. Instead, pigs are capable of foraging Truffle for you. If you want your first pig, head to Marnie’s Ranch, and you will be able to purchase a pig for 16,000 gold. Players can also buy multiple pigs, for generating passive income in the long run.
If you do not have the option to purchase a pig, you need to unlock the deluxe version of your barn by unlocking levels. The deluxe upgrade requires 12 total animals, 25,000 gold, 550 wood, and 300 stone. Similar to coops, the barn also unlocks the auto-feed system. It fills the feeding bench with hay as long as your silos are stocked.
To have a steady supply of Truffle oil in Stardew Valley, you need fully matured pigs that can forage a consistent number of Truffles each day. Depending on where your pigs walk, they have a chance to dig up Truffles and leave them on the ground. If you have a confined farming space for your pigs to walk in, you will find all the Truffles dug up in the same area.
The quality and the number of Truffles depends on the pigs’ happiness. Even with maximum happiness, you will get an average of just three Truffles a day. To make foraging easier for your pigs, you need to keep them outside. But this also means that you will not get any Truffles during rain or winter.
Since the spring season is the best for Truffle foraging, pigs need to remain inside the barn. It is recommended to have a large group of pigs and have their friendship levels maxed out for a consistent supply of Truffles.
Once you have enough Truffles, it is time to create some Truffle oil. You can create Truffle oil using an oil maker. If you do not have access to one just yet, you need to reach Farming Level 8 and have the following materials:
1 Gold Bar
You can place your oil makers anywhere on your farm. Once placed, you can walk up to the Truffle and interact with the oil maker, automatically placing the Truffle inside. It takes six in-game hours to make one unit of Truffle oil.
Earning money in Stardew Valley is not all about hard work and instant payments. Farming Truffle oil takes time, and you may spend hours trying to get Truffle oil. Although, it is worth the time investment due to the passive income you can get.
Having a group of pigs to get you a consistent supply of Truffles for your oil makers means that you will never have to worry about cash ever again. The best thing about Truffle oil is that its quality does not affect the price. If you have access to the Artisan profession, you will rake in money by the hour.
