How to Play Top Fun in GTA Online

Updated:

Top Fun is a string of three missions in Grand Theft Auto Online, which can be completed in co-op by two to eight players. The mission objectives are similar to what you would find in Cops n’ Crooks: One for All in GTA IV but with a fresh twist. If you don’t know how to play Top Fun in GTA Online, here is a quick guide to help you get started.

Unlike the original Cops n’ Crooks mode from GTA IV, the new mode requires only one of the runners to make it to the end. The runners can use Sanchez Dirt Bikes, sports cars, or Mallards to escape the hunters. If you are on the hunter’s team, you get access to the P-996 Lazer fighter jets with GPS to track down your opponents.

How Does the Top Fun Game Mode Work in GTA Online

There are two teams in Top Fun – Hunters and Runners. Each team can have one to four players, and it’s the Runners’ job to get at least one team member to escape while the hunters have to chase down all of the runners to win the game.

As soon as a round of Top Fun starts, a yellow marker shows up on the map that the runners need to get to. The rewards for winning Top Fun might not be a lot, but the fun factor more than makes up for the underwhelming rewards. To keep the game mode from getting boring, there are three unique variations available, and you can choose any one of them when you pick the job.

Here are the three missions that are available in the Top Fun mode in GTA Online:

Top Fun I: Runners will need to escape to the Terminal using Sanchezes dirt bikes while Hunters will deploy from Fort Zancudo. Runners will get a headstart from Approach Road, and they need to make their way via the Terminal to the escape spot.

Top Fun II: Runners get access to sports cars like the Coquettes or Voltics to make their escape. In this iteration of the mode, Runners start at the Los Santos International Airport’s exterior, and the hunters are deployed inside the airport.

Top Fun III: In the third and final iteration of the game mode, the runners need to reach the LSIA in Mallards. The weather is foggy, making traversal very difficult, but it gives the runners a slight edge. The hunters start at the McKenzie Airfield and rely on the GPS to track down the runners amidst the fog.

Tips for Top Fun in GTA Online

Like many other GTA Online jobs, this game mode requires teamwork. Try to predict what the opposing team is up to and coordinate your next step accordingly. Here are some quick tips to help you succeed at Top Fun.

Split up as runners: The best thing you can do is split up. You are the one who controls the pace of the mode, and only one of you needs to escape to win the game.

Stay away from walls as a hunter: One of the most common strategies used by runners is to draw the hunters near walls where they can die quickly. Your missiles can damage your plane if you are not careful and knock you out of the game if you fire too close to the wall.

Stall time whenever you can: The game does not end until someone escapes or an entire team is dead. Keeping your opponents busy and buying time until backup arrives is a solid strategy. If you have more than one enemy on you as a runner, try to waste their time to give your teammates more breathing room to escape.

Use your life wisely: As a hunter, you should eliminate at least one player before dying. Else, you will only make things more difficult for your team. As a runner, try to bait your life by keeping your enemies busy and wasting their time as much as possible.

Why Should You Play Top Fun in GTA Online?

The game mode references the iconic 1986 movie ‘Top Gun’ where the protagonists are fighter pilots, just like how it is in the game mode. Top Fun is an exciting little mode that could have used better rewards and if. But sometimes, the fun experience that playing with your friends offers is enough reason to give the mode a shot.

All three variants of the game mode have their fun little twists, and we recommend giving them all a try. Remember, only one runner needs to make it out alive, and knowing how to outwit your opponents can help you secure a win whether you are a part of the Runners or the Hunters.
