How to Power Xbox One Without Brick? (Solved)

Published:

Ten years after its release, the Xbox One console is still popular with gamers, especially those who are budget-minded. Since new versions of the Xbox One are no longer produced, used versions often have problems. One of these problems is a malfunctioning power brick that stops working. This article will show you how to power an Xbox One and fix your brick issues.

What to Do When Xbox One Brick Malfunctions?

There are a few potential power brick issues with the Xbox One, including overheating and fluctuating electric current. Although it is impossible to power your Xbox One without its power brick, there are a few workarounds that you can try to solve this issue.

In addition, make sure to follow your console’s power brick’s LED light, which will indicate the potential issue. For instance, if your LED light is off or blinking, it means that it’s probably time to change your Power Brick, as it will soon completely stop functioning.

Improving The Ventilation

The Xbox One power brick is a bit like the PSU in a computer. It supplies a steady current of power to your console and prevents sudden fluctuations in voltage. After long use, it may collect dust and other particles, making adequate ventilation impossible. If your console’s power brick becomes very hot, it may stop working.

If you think that high temperature is the cause of this, turn off your console completely and open the power brick to remove dust from inside it. Then, place it in a cooler place with better airflow and power on your console.

Resetting Your Xbox One Power Brick

Sometimes, when your Power Brick starts blinking or changes light, it is possible to reset it and return it to a normal state. Follow these steps to accomplish that:

  1. Unplug the power brick entirely; remove the cable from both the wall outlet and the console
  2. Leave the power brick for half a minute or so
  3. Connect the power cable to the power brick and the wall outlet, but do not connect the other end to the console yet
  4. Inspect the LED light of the power brick, and if the light is green (as it usually should be), connect the other end of the cable to your console, and it should start working normally now.

Be aware that this may be a temporary fix since you may need to order a new Power Brick. However, this method can buy you a few days while you’re waiting for it to arrive.

Other Potential Issues With a Power Brick

In some cases, the power brick of your Xbox One may work fine, but the cable connecting it to a wall outlet or the other part that goes to the console itself can get damaged. If the cable connecting it to a wall outlet is damaged, you can easily change it with a new one.

However, this is not the case for the other end of the cable, which goes into the console. If it gets damaged, it’s best to get an entire power brick. This is to avoid risking damaging your Xbox One (and getting electrocuted).

In rare cases, your Xbox One could be the issue rather than the power brick itself. Hopefully, some of these fixes will solve your issue and allow you to enjoy playing the best Xbox One games for a bit longer. Still, we recommend simply getting a new one, which costs around $25. Undoubtedly, tempering with an old Xbox One power brick is not worth the risk.
