How to Speed Flip in Rocket League
A speed flip in Rocket League involves going forward, flipping over, adjusting your direction, and moving forward. Moving forward, that is, with the heightened speed each prior motion grants you.
To perform a speed flip, you must first perform a flip cancel. A flip cancel is the first step in the speed flip process. Right after performing a flip cancel, you can perform the final movements.
To perform a flip cancel:
Nudge the left analog stick forward
As your vehicle speeds up, push that same analog stick forward
Right as your vehicle is flipping forward, pull the left analog stick downwards
Rather than landing on its back, your vehicle will land on its wheels. But, it will have flipped ahead of where it was. This takes less time than driving across that same space.
To perform a speed flip, begin by performing a flip cancel. Right as your vehicle is falling to the ground, nudge the left analog stick to the left or right. After your vehicle changes directions, pull that same analog stick downwards, to ground the vehicle.
Benefits of a Speed Flip in Rocket League
Speed is the key to success in Rocket League. Gaining speed is a matter of creating, and maintaining, momentum. Actions that disrupt your momentum, such as manually reorienting your vehicle, can prevent you from blocking shots and scoring points.
A speed flip allows you to gain both momentum and speed. Performing the move also allows you to reorient your vehicle and circumvent small patches of the map. Each one of these makes it easy for you to follow the ball, block shots, and push the ball into the opposing team’s goal.
Perfecting the Speed Flip in Rocket League
Since a speed flip begins with a flip cancel, the best way to perfect the speed flip in Rocket League is to practice the flip cancel. By practicing that move repeatedly, you will then be able to flip forward and gain speed/momentum, with ease.
Right after getting a feel for the flip cancel, you can start changing directions as you flip. By changing directions, you can flip in any direction of your choosing, while gaining speed.
