If you want to play a post-apocalyptic game, DayZ might be one of your first choices. Thanks to its complete online structure, you’ll try to survive both with your friends and with players you don’t know. Effective communication is the first rule to survive in a world full of zombies. In this guide we’ll explain in detail how to talk in DayZ.

Like many survival games, DayZ has a PvPvE system. So you’ve to fight zombies and other players at the same time in an open world. The best way to determine if other players are hostile or friendly is to talk to them. Plug in your microphone and get ready for voice chat. Because role-playing in DayZ is very entertaining.

DayZ, which was released in 2013, has yet to come to next-gen consoles. But you can play this game on Playstation 5 and Xbox One as well as on PC. So how you use voice chat in DayZ depends on which platform you play the game on. First, let’s take a look at how you can talk in DayZ on PC.

How to Use Voice Chat in DayZ on PC

If you opened the game for the first time or if you haven’t changed the keyboard options yet, the audio chat key must be Capslock. Hold Capslock and start speaking. With this method, you’ll hear your voice to all players (friends and strangers) near you on the map. If there’s no one near you, you’ll not be able to hear your voice to anyone.

If you don’t want to hold down the Capslock button every time, press it twice quickly. This way you’ll keep your microphone on all the time. If you use this method, keep in mind that all your conversations can be heard by the players around you. Every time you speak, the microphone icon is displayed at the bottom of the screen. This icon tells you whether your microphone is active or not.

How to Talk in DayZ on PS4 & Xbox One

Just like PC players, Playstation 4 and Xbox One players only need to press a single button to enable in-game voice chat. If you’re using the default settings, the voice chat button on both consoles is the down button on the D-pad. You can hold it while speaking or press it twice quickly to ensure it’s always enabled.

There are many good reasons to chat on Dayz because role-playing is also a lot of fun in this game. You can also communicate with other players to set traps or to help them.

There’s just something important to keep in mind. When you speak, the zombies near you and the other players hear your voice. This is a big impact on the realism of the game. So if you use your microphone unnecessarily, you can attract dozens of zombies at once.

How to Type in DayZ

Voice chat isn’t a fixed rule in this game. Sometimes you may want to communicate by typing to the chat. What you need to do for that’s as simple as using voice chat. Press the Enter button to send a chat message in DayZ. That’s it.

The main difference between sending a chat message and using voice chat in DayZ is the effect it’s on the zombies. When you send a chat message, the zombies around you aren’t affected.
