If you like RTS games and alternate histories, this might be the perfect game for you. The Iron Harvest Open Beta will give Steam players the chance to get stuck into KingArt Games’ mechanized warfare!
Iron Harvest is a game I’ve been following for a little while, and I think you’ll be interested in it. Well, if you aren’t already. It’s “what the RTS fans actually want”, apparently.
Iron Harvest’s alternate history brings with it a whole host of new factions and instruments of warfare to the 1920s. Although there are still ground troops, trenches, barbed wire, and all the stuff you’d expect… Iron Harvest’s USP is the giant dieselpunk mechs that dominate each battlefield. They are Iron Harvest’s answer to military armor and offer a unique take on RTS gameplay. Some are quick and melee-based, others act as mobile artillery. Each faction has unique mechs, too, and it means each faction requires different strategies to master. Polania, Rusviet, and Saxony are the post-war mech giants in question, and I guarantee you’ll find one to suit your RTS playstyle.
Okay, I know I’ve bigged it up a bit here, but I’m excited, okay? If you’re a fan of Command & Conquer then you’ll love this. I found it played a lot more like THQ’s Company of Heroes series, but this isn’t a bad thing. Iron Harvest features the solid cover system for infantry units and destructible environments that made CoH great!
Iron Harvest Open Beta Running From July 30, including Campaign Missions, Challenge Maps, Multiplayer, and Skirmish Modes
The mechs in Iron Harvest may seem the be-all and end-all, and they can be, sometimes. However, I’ve found it to be incredibly well-balanced after playing the Iron Harvest Demo a few weeks ago. It’s easy to let the late-game armor overwhelm you in an RTS. We’ve all been there. However, Iron Harvest’s mechs all have their weaknesses, and infantry can handle them in most cases. All you need is the right battlefield strategy and maybe a small amount of luck.
Iron Harvest promises exciting single-player campaigns, co-op challenges, competitive multiplayer skirmishes and free DLC post-launch. It is scheduled for a September 1 release!
