On Tuesday, Jade Raymond, producer of various Ubisoft titles and a former executive at Google, announced her new video game studio and the company’s first game will be a new Playstation exclusive.
The company, called Haven Studios, will see Jade Raymond as CEO work with various game designers from across the industry. The studio is based in Montreal, Quebec.
The news comes via a post on the official Playstation blog, written by Raymond. In it, besides announcing the studio and their work on the IP, no other details were given.
It’s time for us to refocus on GAMES in a place where we can practice our crafts without any barriers or impediments. We want to create worlds where players can escape, have fun, express themselves, and find community. We want to pour our passion into a project. We want to make something wondrous for people to experience. Because we believe in the power of games to bring joy to people’s lives. And Sony does, too. Their commitment to excellence is unmatched. It’s why I couldn’t be happier for their backing and support.Jade Raymond
Mainly though, the blog post features brief anecdotes about Raymond’s past work in games and how much she loves the industry and making video games.
The studio’s LinkedIn page is also light on details, emphasizing the blog post’s points on creating games that bring people together.
Jade Raymond has worked on numerous triple AAA games for nearly the past 25 years. A lot of her contributions to the game industry came when she was working at Ubisoft Montreal, where she produced Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed II, Watch Dogs, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. She was also a managing director for Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Far Cry 4.
In March 2019, she announced that she had joined Google and was going to lead Stadia Games and Entertainment, Google’s in-house game development studio. However, when Google announced they were going to shut down that studio completely last month, Raymond also said she was leaving the company.
It will be interesting to see what Jade Raymond creates with her new studio for Playstation.
