According to sources, Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen, one of the most sought after mid laners in this free agency period, has agreed in principle to a three-year contract with Team Liquid worth $4.2 million.
This turns Jensen into one of the highest-paid players in NA, with his $1.4 million yearly salary being approximately three times higher than the average amount. Additionally, he will become the longest-serving member of TL in the club’s history.
After spending a brief period with SK Gaming in Europe, Jensen emigrated to NA and signed with Cloud9 in May 2015 to become their starting mid laner. From then on, Jensen served as a rock for the squad, weathering through multiple lineup changes while simultaneously holding his own against the region’s best. Soon enough, he eventually gained that respect from his contemporaries, but it wasn’t complete. His lack of silverware was the one sore thumb he couldn’t brush off. Nevertheless, his resilience in the mid lane paid off as he marked NA’s watershed moment by leading C9 to the semifinals of the 2018 World Championship.
Jensen subsequently spent an abundant two years with Team Liquid as he finally hoisted the domestic glory that had always eluded him. He won two LCS split championships and had a runner-up finish in the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational. Not only that, he was selected to three All-Pro teams and a Finals MVP award.
With TL acquiring Jensen, one of their three gaping holes in the lineup gets filled. Now they must decide who must govern the top lane and jungle for 2021 after the contracts of both Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pederson and Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong recently expired. Should TL want to remain competitive in the domestic and international stage, they must decide their next transactions wisely.
