Tekken’s devilish antagonist Kazuya Mishima is the newest character to join the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. Coming along with Kazuya is the Mishima Dojo stage from the latest Tekken entry, Tekken 7. A short trailer featuring Kazuya was shown on today’s Nintendo Direct, with a future presentation to show more about the character slated for June 28.
Kazuya appears to be a powerful fighter, wielding plenty of his moves from the Tekken series. His more iconic moves are in, like Electric Wind God Fist, Hellsweep, and his crouch dash, and he will even have access to his Devil form. The crouch dash looks especially interesting, seeing as he can chain them together like in the Tekken series, making him the first Smash Ultimate character who can wavedash. Melee who?
Kazuya is the fifth DLC character planned for Fighter Pass 2, following Arms’ Min Min, Minecraft’s Steve, Final Fantasy VII’s Sephiroth, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s Pyra and Mythra. Fighters Pass 2 is currently the last planned DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, meaning Kazuya will be the second to last character joining the battle.
Kazuya is the fourth fighting game character in Smash Bros. Ultimate. Ryu from Street Fighter was the first, implemented in Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U, followed by his rival, Ken Masters, in Smash Ultimate, and later on, Terry Bogard from the King of Fighters series.
