Crafting in League of Legends includes many mystical items. And Gemstones are one of them. You may have heard of them, you may even have a few, but you don’t know what they are for. This guide will explain everything about Gemstones including ways to obtain them and spend them.

What are Gemstones for?
The Gemstones are a crafting item you can find in your loot tab. They are extremely rare and hard to obtain. But in exchange for rare items, you can redeem equally rare rewards.
Those rewards include a lineup of Hextech skins for multiple champions, exclusive ward, and more. These items are not exclusive to obtaining via Gemstones but you have to be really lucky to get them the other way. For example, the skins can drop from a regular Hextech chest but have a 0.04% drop rate.
This set of rewards is not fixed, skins come and go from a Gemstone store so if you feel like getting a skin, might as well go for it.
Now the big question is, how to get Gemstones? Unfortunately, there is no easy way like swiping your credit card. There are a total of 4 sources of Gemstones.
Hextech chests: you should be familiar with these loot boxes. You can obtain them via playing and they require a key and can drop almost anything. Including Gemstones. Opening such a chest has a 3.6% chance of dropping a Gemstone. Which isn’t much unless you have a full bank account to buy those chests for real money.
Leveling up: Leveling up in League of Legends will start granting you Gemstones. But only from Level 150. And you will get guaranteed Gemstones every 50 levels.
Essence Emporium: This is a limited-time Blue Essence sale that happens twice a year. During that sale, you can obtain Gemstones for 50,000, 75,000, and 100,000 BE.
Events: League of Legends often hosts various in-game events. Those events come with their own set line of rewards and sometimes include Gemstones.
The ways to obtain Gemstones are pretty time/wallet-consuming. If you are on the hunt for Gemstones I would suggest keeping your eye out for different events that happen in League. Other than that, that’s all for this guide and I will see you on the field of Summoner’s Rift.
