League of Legends: Meta Breakdown From the First few Days at MSI

Updated:

Nerfs to certain items in patch 11.9 have put a momentary end to jungle champions who simply charge at you. These changes gave way to new champions to find a home in the jungle, and some have seen professional play. That being said, here are different meta takeaways from MSI in just the first two days alone.

Changes in the jungle

On the first day of MSI alone, there were 4 new champions that saw pro play: Morgana, Kindred, Rumble, and Fiddlesticks. Both Morgana and Rumble saw success on the rift, thanks to DWG KIA jungler Canyon, and RNG jungler Wei respectively.

On the other hand, Kindred and Fiddlesticks failed to find significant advantages against their jungle opponents.

Other meta takeaways from MSI come from the lanes, with Lee Sin, normally a jungle pick, appearing as a laner instead. In the mid lane, the Blind Monk has yet to see success. Despite this, MAD Lions Top Laner Armut, and RNG Top Laner Xiaohu have found success with the champion.

Underwhelming Kog’Maw and Lulu pairing

However, some meta picks failed to see success during their matches. Thanks to recent Lulu buffs, the duo of Kog’Maw and Lulu saw pro play in Day 2. Sadly, despite high expectations about the picks, the duo failed to find significant advantages in the match and fell behind.

Non-troll pick Trundle

Meanwhile, the 11.9 buffs to Trundle were enough to bring him to the jungle, with AHaHaCiK piloting the champion. Sadly, despite some promising ganks, the LPL representatives RNG proved to be too much for the Unicorns.

Hecarim and Udyr are still relevant

Despite the nerfs, Hecarim and Udyr still occasionally come to the rift, proving to still be champions worth picking. With 4 days left in the group stage, there are still other unique picks that could come to the rift.
