Earlier today, Riot Games announced a series of changes for the systems in the League of Legends ranked modes. Here’s all we know…
Riot Games had some big announcements today. One of them being how the 2021 Ranked Season will play out for League of Legends, there’s a few back-end changes that should improve the matchmaking systems.
The first and biggest change is how your initial rank is determined. The system will now use your “performance on normal matches” to determine that rank and Riot claims this system will improve match quality.
In a post from their website today they say this new system will match players with people “actually close to their skill level”. Their other big focus on matchmaking is the change to the LP system, which they say players will get less of each game in an effort to “keep matchmaking healthy”. Riot Games seem confident in their claims, which is reassuring.
Another big change which will affect veteran ranked players is how initial rank will be determined for you. Now you will start closer to the rank you left off at last season. This is a change players have been asking about for quite some time. This change has been dubbed a “lighter start-of-season reset”.
Riot also noted the removal of the Division Promos, oftentimes the least favorite part of any League players climb. You will still have to participate in promos from tier to tier such as Gold to Diamond, but players can look forward to a less stressful climb through the inter-divisional ranks.
Other big changes include Master, Grandmaster, and Challenger ranks having duo queues taken away and there have also been changes to the decay system for players ranked Diamond and above.
