What Happens When League Season 10 Starts
Every year, a new season of League of Legends begins. The purpose of the different seasons is to divide major changes to the game. Changes are made during preseason so they can be balanced and players can adjust before the start of the new season.
A soft ranked reset will come alongside the new season. This means that all players will become unranked and have to go through placements again. The highest rank players can be placed into is Diamond, so every high ranking player will be shifted down a few ranks. This causes lower-ranked players to fall a bit as well. This happens because Challengers and Masters will take up space in Diamond, Diamonds will fall to Platinum, Platinums to Gold, and so forth. The official ranking formulas and details have never been released, but ranks are associated with player base percentages and population, and that’s why there is a trickle-down effect instead of Diamond becoming overpopulated from all Diamond and higher-ranked players.
The major features of season 10 include Elemental Dragons and Elemental Rifts and along with them, alcoves, new support items that are upgraded with quests instead of gold, more lethality items for AD assassins and fighters, and a slew of new champions: Senna, Aphelios, and Sett.
With powerful Dragon Buffs and Dragon Souls, this jungle objective will be prioritized more than ever. Champions that can slay dragons efficiently and gain Bot priority will be powerful in the upcoming season. Bot Laners that can bully the enemy and win early game. Supports that can help generate early leads. Junglers that can gank to help gain lane priority and/or kill dragons quickly.
Mid Lane also has some power over the Dragon Pit, so champions with pushing and roaming power will be good. Top Lane will probably want to take Teleport.
If your team can’t gain Bot and Dragon priority, you can encourage taking the Rift Herald. The Rift Herald can respawn now if given enough time before Baron spawns. If you decide to focus on the Herald fast enough, you can get it twice.
With early dragons being the new meta and an Elder Dragon that can spawn in the mid-game after one team claims the soul after slaying their fourth dragon, snowballing has a lot of potential in the upcoming season. There are more options than ever to clean up the weak late game of early game champions through Dragon Buffs. Early game priority and team fight power will be necessary around Dragon.
