Today marks the first day of Worlds 2020, and we start at the Play-In Stage. Oceania’s only team, Legacy Esports, proved their worth as they take their first win at their first-ever Worlds appearance.
Despite a couple hiccups throughout the game, making OPL fans nervous, they were able to pull through that pressure and seal the deal at the end. Legacy Esports went against Brazilian team, INTZ, who was entering the match-up with one loss from earlier in the day against Spain’s Mad Lions.
In a game lasting just over 40 minutes, the game ended at 17-17 kills. Leads were going back and forth between two teams until well into the game and LGC was able to punish INTZ’s mistakes. LGC top-laner Topoon was a safety net for LGC, knowing that when mistakes are made he has to turn over the situation better for the team. In the late game, LGC eventually got the lead and were able to use that moment to push and overwhelm INTZ with the pressure.
A strong moment for LGC was during mid-game at their jungle where LGC was able to turn around a 2 vs 3 play. LGC’s Jungler-Mid duo, Babip and Tally (Nidalee, Sett), were able to outplay INTZ’s Shini, Envy and RedBert (Volibear, Zoe, Bard). LGC mid-laner, Tally, performed well during his team fights furthering the Legacy push. Many expected the game to have gone either way, but the main difference between the teams’ performance was that Legacy knew how to come back and recover from their mistakes.
Even Legacy’s Twitter page pokes fun at the stressful game and posts a meme that depicts it so well. Still, a commendable win from Legacy! Just don’t give your fans heart attacks again.
