Gameplay of Retrieve XM, Domination, and Seek and Destroy have already been shown, which were revealed in the livestream around 2 weeks ago. Most of the gameplay focused on Retrive XM and Domination.
Retrieve XM is Lemnis Gate’s version of “Capture the Flag.” 4 Exotic Matter, or “XM,” are scattered throughout the map and players must bring them to their “Gate” (spawn point). The player or team with the most XM retrieved at the end of the fifth round will win that half of the match.
Domination requires a player or team to capture control points (referred to as “particle accelerators”) by dealing damage to it. The player or team with the majority of particle accelerated captured at the end of the fifth round will win that half of the match.
Seek and Destroy is quite self-explanatory: one team/player defends 2 objectives and the other team/player will need to destroy it. Attackers and defenders will earn points depending on how many objectives they destroy or keep alive, respectively.
Death Match is a newly revealed game mode. An FPS staple, there are no objectives and instead focuses on straight-up killing the enemy operatives. Death Match also features the turn based, 25-second time loop mechanic, so it will be interesting to see how this new spin on the classic FPS mode will play out.
Simultaneous game mode
Game modes will have 1v1 modes and 2v2 modes. While turn-based is the core experience of Lemnis Gate, there will be “simultaneous” game modes where players will take their turns at the same time, as opposed to one player taking their turn at a time.
In short, here are how the game modes are played in each scenario:
1v1 turn based: Player A goes first in round 1. Then player B takes their turn in round 1. Player A takes their turn in round 2, then player B takes their turn in round 2, and so on.
1v1 simultaneous: Player A and player B take their turns in round 1 at the same time. Then, player A and player B take their turns in Round 2 at the same time, and so on.
2v2 turn based: Player A and C are in one team and player B and D are in the other. Player A takes their turn, then player B goes, then player C, and then player D. Essentially, turns alternate between teams and players.
2V2 teammates play together: Player A and C take their turn at the same time. Then payer B and D take their turn at the same time.
2v2 enemies play together: Player A and player B take their turns. Then player C and D take their turns. Essentially, 1 player from each team takes their turns at the same each time.
2v2 simultaneous: All 4 players on each team take their turns at the same time each round.
Lemnis Gate also features an offline mode where players can take their turns by passing the controller around for each turn.
Lemnis Gate beta date
The beta for Lemnis Gate will run from July 22 to July 26, meaning that the beta will run and end around 1 week before release.
All seven operatives will be available in the beta, alongside four maps and two game modes.
Participating in the beta will net players a “one-off hex grid,” which contains unique cosmetic items for the operatives and weapons.
Pre-ordering the game before its August 3 release will also net you an exclusive cosmetic operative and weapon skin for KARL, one of the operatives. Pre-ordering will also grant you a 20% discount of the base price of the game.
