Riot Games announced several new games and the new champion, Senna, during their 10th Anniversary Edition of Riot Pls. Among the games was the new card game, Legends of Runeterra, or LoR for short. The game is based around the same world as League of Legends, it even has some of the same champions in addition to other creatures and spells from the universe. But you didn’t come to “Legends of Runeterra Release Date and Preview Timeline” to hear about gameplay, so we’ll put that topic aside for now.
Right after the Riot Pls on October 15-20, there was a special preview patch that could be played. However, you only got in by watching Twitch streams and getting a random drop if you were lucky.
There is another preview patch coming up on November 14-19. It might use the same method for distributing keys, so if you want to play, be sure to pre-register and connect your Riot Games account to Twitch in your Twitch connection settings. This patch will feature a draft mode!
The preview patches only last a few days, but the closed beta that is set to start within the first 3 months of 2020 will be open right up until the release. Whether it will follow the same drop method as the preview is unknown.
Legends of Runeterra Release Date
Finally, we don’t know the exact release date. We do know it will be sometime after the closed beta before the end of 2020. The game already looks solid based on the previous preview patch, so hopefully the Legends of Runeterra release date isn’t too far into the year.
Remember, any cards you earn while playing in the beta and preview patches will not persist into the launch. Any money you spend during the beta or a preview will be refunded back to the in-game currency.
Next year, there will be another 10th anniversary, but it will be for League of Legends as an Esport. There were a lot of expectations going into the 2019 finals. Let’s hope Worlds 2020 is just as exciting as all these new games.
