The newly-reborn Lucasfilm Games has announced that it is parterning with Ubisoft to produce an open-world Star Wars title. Here’s all we know…
Somehow… Lucasfilm Games has returned…
Much like The Emperor himself, who many thought was dead, Lucasfilm Games has somehow reformed and promises a new era of Star Wars games. So far, we’ve had an announcement that a brand new Indiana Jones game is coming from the studio and Bethesda.
Now, though, is the big one… An open-world Star Wars title is coming from Ubisoft. Yes, that Ubisoft. The Assassin’s Creed, Immortals Fenyx Rising Ubisoft. It is massive news.
It’s been almost eight years of EA exclusivity with the licensing and fans have been less-than pleased with the output. Both Battlefront and Battlefront II have been good, but do little to live up to the scale of the original Battlefront releases. Similarly, Jedi: Fallen Order was a fantastic title but has left many wondering why EA could only produce a handful of titles in such a long period?
With a horde of cancelled projects, most notably 1313, many are looking forward to the future for announcements from Lucasfilm Games. This game, as you might imagine, is in the incredibly early stages of development so there’s little to no information available.
So far, we know that Julian Gerighty, Director of The Division 2 and The Crew is going to serve as the Creative Director and the game will utilise the Snowdrop Engine from Massive. Other than that, though, that’s it.
It was reported that this EA exclusivity deal was for a ten-year period, but… Perhaps this means it’s coming to an end? That, or that these new titles aren’t coming until at the very least 2023. Still, it’s very exciting and appears to stay true to Lucasfilm Games’ statement of bringing a new era of Lucasfilm-IP games.
Are you looking forward to a Star Wars title from Ubisoft? What would you like to see it focus on?
