Mario Kart Tour has so many themed events, it often brings in new players. And although the game is easy to pick up, beginners might overlook a few simple tricks. Mario Kart Tour rewards you with unique prizes when you pull “pipes”, so many players need a pipe strategy for free pulls.
Firing pipes will give you new items, such as:
But these rewards aren’t just fun to collect. They can also give you an important edge when you race.
Pipes can be bought with “Rubies”, Mario Kart Tour’s in-game currency. Rubies can be purchased for real cash, outright. But here’s a list of every strategy to save with more free pulls.
Pull Pipes with Event Tokens
Themed events are one of the best things about Mario Kart Tour, with fresh collectibles that are fun to grind for.
New events also allow you to earn “Tokens” until the event ends. You can actually turn these tokens in for Rubies at the “Token Shop” during the event.
Usually, you can only earn up to fifteen free Rubies this way. That’s because there is a limit on how many times you can exchange Tokens for Rubies.
But this might just be enough to let you fire another ten pipes. At the very least, you will have three more free pulls for a single pipe.
For example, some events allow you to scoop up tokens right on the course, during any of the races. But the current Space Tour requires you to make opponents crash!
Tour Stars Pipe Strategy
This is the most elaborate pipe strategy in Mario Kart Tour. Each themed event tour is broken down into a series of “Cups”, which group together four different courses.
One of the courses always offers a unique challenge, such as Time Trial or Smash Small Dry Bones.
Placing well, earning coins, and performing actions in each Cup will give you “grand stars”.
Collecting more stars can automatically earn you more rewards throughout the event, in different ways:
- Tour Gifts
- “1 For Free” Pipe
- Tour Challenge Prizes
It’s important to understand how each system works, so that you know what to aim for when you race.
Tour Gifts Rewards
Each Tour allows you to earn “Tour Gifts” in exchange for grand stars. If you play in more Cups, then you will easily collect more stars.
Tour gifts can offer around 21 more free Rubies. However, Rubies can be difficult prizes to earn with tour gifts.
Generally speaking, casual players should be able to reach six Rubies. This is only one more pipe pull.
Fortunately, new players can also claim the “Gold Pass” for two free weeks. The Gold Pass allows you to earn additional rewards for the same number of stars.
Just remember that if you don’t want to pay five dollars to keep the Gold Pass after two weeks, you’ll have to cancel it yourself.
“1 for Free” Pipe
During the event, collecting grand stars will also let you pull multiple pipes for free. You can find them by scrolling through your Cups, all the way to the right.
These pipes are few and far apart, but they will not require you to use any Rubies. Also, you should remember to pull them before using your Rubies.
Each pipe has 100 items in it. If you use free pulls to reduce the number of items, then you have a better chance at rare prizes when you do use Rubies.
Also, you can earn a free gold pipe if you participate in all of the Cups! A golden pipe is guaranteed to give you a “High-End” prize, which is rare and valuable.
Tour Challenges Rubies
There are both standard challenges and multiplayer challenges that can be completed to earn free Rubies. But these are not affected by tours or new events.
Fortunately, each Tour event also comes with its own set of challenges. You can aim to complete specific challenges, and finishing them all off can reward you with free Rubies.
The challenges may extend to multiplayer as well, so friends can help each other progress more quickly.
Also, there’s always a reward for the total amount of points you earned throughout a Tour. Different amounts will give you various prizes when the Tour ends.
These prizes can be far more difficult to reach. But if you have the time, you can earn at least another few Rubies for free.
Daily Quick Play Rewards
Every day, you get the chance for a “Quick Play” race. This gives you a preset course, driver, kart and glider to use.
You will receive various gifts for completing Quick Play races every day. But it will usually give you around ten more free Rubies, guaranteed.
Then again, sometimes the free pipes that you earn can give you Rubies, coins, and more. It’s even possible to earn a pile of forty five Rubies right out of the free pipe!
And at the end of the tour, you’ll receive a fun badge to show off after completing all of the Quick Plays.
Earn Ranked Rubies for Free Pulls
There are specific Cups in each Tour event that will allow you to play ranked matches. You’ll need to earn more points than the competition to earn rewards.
Sadly, ranking well can only earn you more Rubies once the current Tour event has ended. And there is no way to guess if you’ll want items from the next event.
That is, unless you know that your favorite holiday season is coming up, like Halloween or Christmas. Then, you’ll be able to prepare in advance.
Get 1 Free Pull for 10 Pipes
Mario Kart Tour itself makes this pipe strategy pretty clear, but it’s still important to note. It costs five Rubies to pull one pipe at a time.
Instead, you can save up forty five Rubies to purchase a bundle of ten pipe pulls. This is especially useful for your first pull, when there are still six high-end items in a full tour pipe.
You’ll have to consider if you want one reward in particular. You can get closer to a specific item by pulling more pipes.
But if you’ve already drawn a high-end item that you didn’t want, you can reset the pipe. This will refill the pipe with six high-end items again.
For now, these are the best pipe strategies in Mario Kart Tour. It’s a breezy game, which mostly captures the fun and excitement of the console series.
