Preparation to Save Everyone in Mass Effect 2
Squad Members’ Loyalty Missions
To make sure all of your characters survive Mass Effect 2’s epilogue, you must complete all of their Loyalty Missions. This, however, will not guarantee their survival.
Unfortunately, there are still some that can be disloyal even after finishing their specific Mission. Here is each particular case that can turn around their survivability:
Jack & Miranda
As Shepard returns to the ship after finishing both Miranda and Jack’s Loyalty Missions, another trial will appear. The two of them will be fighting and the commander will have to either Persuade or Intimidate them to keep their loyalty.
Since this is a harder Charisma check, players can choose one of the antagonizing choices first. They can afterward talk with the one they upset in private and beat an easier Charisma check to bring back their Loyalty.
One negative side effect though of riling up one of them is that the romance with the one that was annoyed will be completely lost.
Samara
For this Loyalty Mission, the commander will have to first pass at least three trials to impress Morinth. The easiest way to do this is to:
- Talk to the pestering Turian Meln on the dance floor and tell him “Leave her alone”
- Talk to Waera, the dancing Asari, and choose the Charm option to dance
- Communicate with the bartender and tell him that you will buy a round of drinks
Even if you don’t do these specific tasks, three of the seven possible will do. As long as you don’t choose the “Goodbye” dialog option and try to communicate with the people in the club, you will be fine.
All players have to do now is to keep Morinth interested by talking about subjects she is interested in or passing Persuasion checks. Boring her will result in her leaving the nightclub and you completing the Mission, but losing Samara’s loyalty.
Tali & Legion
During Tali’s quest, players will have the choice to present evidence against her father. She will be loyal to Shepard as long as you don’t show that evidence.
Now, after finishing both Tali and Legion’s Loyalty Missions, they will fight, same as Jack and Miranda. You will have to handle this the same way as before:
- Persuade or Intimidate them
- Persuade or Intimidate the offended person
This will keep both of their loyalties up. If the player doesn’t patch things up with the character they offended, they will remain disloyal.
Thane
The commander can fail Thane’s Loyalty Missions, but they can easily fix the situation by talking with him afterward. By discussing the mission with Thane, they can get his loyalty back up.
Zaeed
During Zaeed’s Loyalty Mission, around the end, the player will have to choose between saving the factory workers or following Vido.
Choosing to follow and kill Vido will gain you Zaeed’s loyalty.
Otherwise, saving the workers will result in Vido getting away and Zaeed getting injured. Using the Charm option will, in the following conversation, keep his loyalty. The other two options will result in disloyalty.
Normandy Upgrades
Other important parts that will protect many of your companions are three specific Normandy Upgrades in Mass Effect 2.
You will need to speak to some of your crewmates later in the game to get them:
- Heavy Ship Armor – From Jacob
- Multicore Shielding – From Tali
- Thanix Cannon – From Garrus
Each of these costs 15,000 Palladium and can be gained using the Investigate dialog option with the specified companions.
Reaper IFF
To start the endgame and finish Mass Effect 2 with everyone saved, players will now have to start the Reaper IFF Mission. This quest should not be started before doing the earlier steps!
Once you have finished this mission, the crew will need to install the Reaper IFF. To do this, the player will need to finish four random missions or side quests. If they only have one to three missions, they will only have to do those. When there are no quests left when finishing the Reaper IFF mission, they will immediately start once they get close to the Galaxy Map.
To complete Legion’s Loyalty Mission, the commander must first talk to them before getting close to the Galaxy Map, since this could unfortunately trigger the end game. If they try to pursue the mission after activating Jokers Jump, half of your crew will be dead and gone.
After installing the Reaper IFF, an automatic quest will start that will result in Shepard losing all of Normandy’s crew. To make sure everyone survives, immediately begin the Suicide Mission. You can still shop at the Citadel if you aren’t ready since that won’t endanger anyone.
Saving Everyone in Mass Effect 2 – Suicide Mission
Now, the moment of truth has come. For this part of the game, players will have to choose people from their crew to fulfill several tasks. If you have followed the guide to a T, this will be a breeze. If not, you can still save the gang if you choose the crewmates that are loyal to you. So, let’s see how to save everyone in Mass Effect 2’s Suicide Mission:
Everyone will survive the initial attack on the ship thanks to the special Normandy upgrades.
Next, players will have to choose special characters to fulfill several missions:
- Tech Specialist – Legion, Kasumi, or Tali
- Diversion Team Squad Leader – Jacob, Miranda, or Garrus
- Biotic Specialist – Samara, Jack
- 2nd Fireteam Leader – Jacob, Miranda, or Garrus (Miranda survives this phase even if she’s disloyal)
- Escort – Mordin
The last part where squad members can die is the final battle. Shepard must bring two loyal companions with them, otherwise, the disloyal specialist will die. If most of the gang is loyal, nobody left behind to defend the doors will die.
