Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2 Are Coming To PC

It is definitely long overdue, but it seems that Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2 are finally being released on PC. Well, they are being rereleased. The games were actually available on PC back during their original releases, but they are like gold dust to find these days and are difficult to get to run on modern hardware.

The Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee recently added new ratings for the games, indicating that the games are likely going to be ported to PC. In addition to the first 2 Metal Gear Solid games, the original MSX game Metal Gear has also been rated. The ratings pages don’t give release dates for the titles but do state they are rated for PC only, meaning they likely won’t be seeing a console rerelease, or at least not in Taiwan.

There are a lot of rumours floating around the gaming world in the run up to the Tokyo Games Show this weekend, including rumours of some activity within the Konami camp, so it is possible that the ports will be announced during the event. It is likely that the ports will be the original PC versions, just modified to run on modern hardware. The listing are for Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, the same version that was released on Xbox and Windows in 2002/2003.

After Hideo Kojima left Konami, fans have assumed that the Metal Gear series will be no more, but maybe there’s still hope that a new Metal Gear Solid game could happen, just hopefully it won’t be dreadful as Survive.
