You might have missed it, but in the last few days, there’s been a few Microsoft Bungie rumours circulating… However, they may not be as true as you might think.
Earlier, the GamesBeat Podcast brought forward the rumour that Microsoft is in talks to acquire Bungie. This was reinforced by a Eurogamer report that suggests there is some kind of truth behind these rumours.
‘ Speaking on the GamesBeat podcast, Venturebeat’s Jeff Grubb said he had heard Microsoft and Bungie had been in discussions – although the two companies had not been able to agree on a sale price.’EuroGamer
Eurogamer’s News Editor, Tom Phillips, also reportedly heard talks were taking place with Bungie driving to raise funds for their studio, staff, and future projects.
Microsoft Bungie Rumours Denied By Bungie Officials
The rumour, highlighted by @Nibellion, was flatly denied by Pete Parsons. He’s Bungie’s CEO, so you’d think he’d know if it was true or not! You can see his blunt response below:
This denial was then followed up by a tweet from Vanessa Vanasin, Bungie’s Director of Global Public Relations. In her Tweet, she stated that it was all merely speculation. You can see that below:
The thing that’s missing from these denials is that they all seem a bit… PR-y (Sorry, Vanessa!)
They just deny that ‘Microsoft has been in talks to acquire Bungie multiple times but they fell through each time due to Bungie’s high price.’ It doesn’t state that talks haven’t taken place in the past, or whether they fell through due to Bungie’s high price. I would expect that there’s more to come from this story…
