Midnight Ghost Hunt August 13th Alpha Announced

Updated:
Midnight Ghost Hunt

It has been quite a while since we last heard of anything about the prop hunt game, Midnight Ghost Hunt. There hasn’t been anything mentioned since March, after the February alpha. But Midnight Ghost Hunt will be getting a new alpha this Friday, the 13th, alongside new additions to the game. The alpha will run until August 15th.

Midnight Ghost Hunt: New maps

There are 2 new maps that will be included in this alpha: Ghost Ship and School. If you ask me, the second one sounds more frightening.

Pirate Ship appears to be an abandoned pirate ship in a cove. Or simply a tourist attraction that’s being haunted. Either way, it’s a perfect setting for this game.

From the video shown, Ghosts can possess the ship’s cannon and fire them at the Ghost Hunters, giving them a significant offensive option. However, it should be noted that Ghosts will likely still be vulnerable to damage while possessing a cannon.

Meanwhile, School takes place in a prom night setting.

It looks like someone has been summoning spirits on Prom Night! What happened to all the students and staff? Hunters, gear up & find out what spooky shenanigans took place on that fateful night. Ghosts, never let the hunters leave and bury the secrets with them!

This hellish high school has a quaint 80s charm, and fans of our classic Mansion map are sure to enjoy hiding in these narrow hallways and hidden ledges.

Oh, and there’s a possessable disco ball. That’s pretty cool, I guess.

Midnight Ghost Hunt: New weapons

Two new weapons are being added to the game: Salt Shotgun and Frostbite.

For those unaware, salt has a strong significance in a lot of religions for a long time. Salt is believed to be used to keep evil spirits or demons away.

The game’s double barreled shotgun spews salt shakers. Being a shotgun, it will be very effective at close range.

As for the Frostbite, it is a submachine gun weapon that fires supercooled shards. It is capable of stopping a possessed prop in its tracks, though I imagine its damage output will pale in comparison to the other weapons.

Midnight Ghost Hunt: New gadgets

And finally, there are 3 new gadgets in the new Midnight Ghost Hunt alpha: Spectrophone, Vacuum, and C4.

The Spectrophone allows you to detect ghosts in front of you. It is similar to the Radar gadget, which detects how close you are to a Ghost. However, the Spectrophone only gives you a direction.

If you have a teammate with a Radar, you can use both of them to determine a Ghost’s exact position.

The Vacuum has been separated from the Spectral Cannon. Previously, if you had a Spectral Cannon, you also had the Vacuum, which is used to suck up Ghost remains, Luigi’s Mansion or Ghost Busters style.

Now, Vacuum is its own gadget. Not Vacuuming up the Ghosts allows other Ghosts to revive it, so it’s a handy tool for making sure the Ghost stays dead-er.

The C4 can be attached to walls, props, and even Ghosts, dealing significant area of effect damage.

Midnight Ghost Hunt: New Ghost abilities

Ghost Hunters aren’t the only ones with new toys to play with. Ghost have been given five new abilities.

Death Grip
Death Grip is a Hunter-trapping ability. If Hunters walk over the trap, ghostly arms will grab them from below and hold them in place until broken. Excellent for losing a tail, or for holding a Hunter in place before hitting them in the head with a lamp.

Apparition
Apparition spawns a fake Ghost that will run in a random direction. This is great for a quick distraction during a getaway.

(Revamped) Poltergeist
Poltergeist has been reworked into an entirely new ability – you can now haunt an object, causing it to float menacingly. If a Hunter approaches the floating object, it will hurl itself at the Hunter automatically. One shot to the floating object will cause it to fall harmless, however. Combos great with Corruptor.

Telekinesis
Old Poltergeist has been renamed Telekinesis. This still lets you remotely charge up props to deal damage, just with some bug fixes and overall aiming improvements.

Trickster
Tricksters can select any prop and move them to a specified location, making it seem as though the moving prop is possessed by a Ghost player. Extremely good for causing a distraction and even blocking incoming shots.

More features

The developer blog also lists some new features to make the experience more smoother, such as adding in support for party and team assignment. Basically, if you queue up with friends, you’ll stay on the same team.
