Minecraft Dungeons Easter Egg Pays Homage to Diablo II

A Minecraft Dungeons Easter Egg pays homage to the greatest isometric dungeon crawler: Diablo II. Minecraft Dungeons is the newest game in the blocky universe and is set to release May 26.

Minecraft Dungeons is an isometric dungeon crawler set in the Minecraft universe. It sounds like it’s the perfect match, and it looks like it might be! What makes it unique (aside from the camera perspective) is that it focuses solely on the dungeon crawling aspect of the game. There’s no mining and no crafting, but thankfully lots of dungeoneering, so the name is half-accurate.

Minecraft Dungeons Gameplay Reveal

Unlike other popular titles of the genre, it doesn’t have a class system but features a lot of stuff that will be familiar to fans of the genre. There will be a whole host of weaponry, armour, monsters, and more. It will all be randomly-generated, too! So it’s almost a roguelike. From the looks of it, it will be more relaxed in comparison to its peers. This means it might be the perfect title to try out isometric dungeon crawlers, if you haven’t already.

Although Minecraft Dungeons isn’t out just yet, review copies have allowed plenty of people to give the game a go. The game is full of little nods and hidden details, as I’m sure any Google search will tell you. But there’s one which is really standing out amongst fans of Minecraft and the genre alike.

There’s a Minecraft Dungeons Easter Egg that contains a reference to Diablo II, commonly thought of as a benchmark for the genre.

The Following Section Contains Spoilers, By The Way.

The Lords of Gaming website discovered the area containing the reference, but it wasn’t before a bit of work.

Firstly, you have to complete the game. God knows how long that’ll take, but I can’t imagine it’ll take long given the randomly-generated dungeons. Titles with this feature tend to be shorter games, putting focus on the replayability aspect of their levels.

Secondly, players will have to return to their camp to cross a new bridge. On the other side, there’s a new church with a painting in it. You can cycle through this painting, and each image and sound offers you a hint to finding a set of runes across the game.

When you’ve got all the runes, you have to head back to the church and find a hidden button.

Then, if you may not have guessed already… It takes you to the Diablo II Cow Level. Yep, that one.

Minecraft Dungeons Easter Egg
Pure Cow Chaos. Simple as that.

You fight off hordes of cows, much like the original version of the level. It’s a fun little easter egg, and a great homage. For anyone looking for more content, it also adds a good set of objectives for the endgame of Minecraft Dungeons.

You may not have heard; Minecraft has released a Pac-Man themed DLC to celebrate the yellow fellow’s 40th anniversary. Waka waka!

Minecraft Dungeons is coming May 26 to PC, Switch, Xbox One, and PS4. It’ll be available on Game Pass upon release, too. Like what you see? Don’t forget to share our work with the buttons below!
