Monster Hunter Rise: How to do Spirit Helm Breaker

Updated:
Monster Hunter Rise Helm Breaker

The longsword in Monster Hunter Rise inherits many moves from its Monster Hunter World and Iceborne counterpart, including the powerful Spirit Helm Breaker, which is the longsword’s highest damaging attack. How to actually do the Helm Breaker is different this time around. Here is how to perform the Spirit Helm Breaker in Monster Hunter Rise.

How to raise the spirit gauge in Monster Hunter Rise

Similarly in World, Spirit Helm Breaker consumes one Spirit Gauge, which is the level at which your longsword is that. You can see the level you are at using the icon below your health and stamina bar and seeing what colour it is glowing on its outer edges. (none > white > yellow > red).

Hitting a monster with the Spirit Roundhouse Slash (ZR to ZR to ZR to ZR with enough Spirit Meter) is the traditional way of increasing your Spirit Gauge.

Additionally, the counterattacks (you must be hit during the invincibility frames) of Foresight Slash (ZR + A) and Iai Spirit Slash (ZR + B to ZR) will increase your Spirit Gauge by one level.

To perform the Spirit Helm Breaker, you will need to use the Silkbind Attack, Soaring Kick (ZL + X). The hunter will propel forward and upwards, sending out a kick. Landing this kick will cause the hunter to ascend, during which you will need to press ZR to perform the Spirit Helm Breaker.

Failing to input any buttons during the ascent, or not having any levels in your Spirit Gauge will instead perform a Plunging Strike, which will regenerate your Spirit Meter over a short period of time if it hits.

Soaring Kick is the only way you can perform the Spirit Helm Breaker, which means that if you swap it out for the Silkbind Sakura Slash attack, you will not be able to use it.

Silkbind Sakura Slash is an easy way of increasing your Spirit Gauge, so it’s a good move to swap in if you’re a beginner. However, once you get used to the weapon, it is highly recommended to keep the Soaring Kick attack, since there are other (albeit more difficult) ways for increasing your Spirit Gauge.

However, you can play around with the other Switch Skills, one of which is unlocked at High Rank.

Playing the longsword efficiently and optimally requires knowledge of the monster’s attacks, allowing you to use the counterattacks from Foresight Slash and Iai Spirit Slash to level up your Spirit Gauge.
