Monster Hunter Rise Rampage More Details Revealed

Published:

We have just been given more details regarding the Monster Hunter Rise Rampage quests. As part of the March Digital Event for Monster Hunter, Capcom has given us new gameplay footage and tutorials, particularly for the Rampage mode. Here are what we learned today about the Monster Hunter Rise Rampage.

Kamura Village is under threat of the rampage, and it is the hunters’ duty to protect the village from the onslaught. Hunter will need to defend the Stronghold by using their hunting weapons, hunter installations (ballistae, cannons, etc), and AI-controlled allies, such as the twins, Hinoa and Minoto.

Hunter Installations

Monsters will attack in hordes. During the preparation phase, hunters can place hunter installations throughout the numerous platforms throughout the Stronghold. From what we can see in the interface, there are 3 different types of installations: Mountable, Auto, and Limited.

Mountables appear to be the traditional ballistae and cannons from previous Monster Hunter games, in which hunters must operate them manually. However, it appears that this time, hunters will no longer need to gather ammo for them, instead of relying on cooldowns to operate.

Autos look like installations that fire at monsters nearby automatically. Simple and straightforward.

Limited installations, we haven’t seen much of, but my guess for an example would be the explosive setup that detonates on hit, very much like the barrel bombs that players can craft.

Types of Monsters

Monsters will have different icons on them to represent what kind of threat they are: blue, red, and green icons. Also, some monsters will be labelled as a “Major Threat,” and Apex Monsters will also appear.

Monsters with the blue icon will focus their attacks on barricades and the gate, making them a high-priority target.

Monsters with the red icons will focus their attacks on hunters.

Monsters with green icons launch projectiles, and are implied to be mainly focused on destroying installations.

Certain monsters in hordes will be marked as “Major Threats.” They are the most dangerous ones in the horde and should also be a high priority.

Apex monsters are the biggest threat in the Rampage and have a different appearance than regular monsters, donning on a darker colour with glowing red eyes.

Side Missions

During Rampage quests, the Stronghold can level up as you repel monsters, inflict blights or status effects, and complete side missions. Side missions grant the most experience in levelling up the Stronghold.

Counter Signal

Activating the Counter Signal will increase hunters’ attack power significantly, and is recommended to attack monsters with their weapons instead of installations.

Presumably, those limited installations include the Gong Signal you can see in the gameplay footage. The Counter Signal is probably also an installation, and a hunter can activate it at the right time when they need that extra damage.

Kamura Village Allies

Once per quest, hunters can call in allies from Kamura Village, who can significantly contribute to the Rampage by dealing tons of damage.

Rampage will have its own set of rewards as an incentive for doing it. It can also be done in solo, as it will use the same difficulty scaling for regular quests (more hunters = higher difficulty), and Rampage has been balanced to be doable in solo.

According to director Yasunori Ichinose, you can even complete any of the Sub-Assignments and end the Rampage part-way through for reduced rewards. This is similar to Sub-Quests before Monster Hunter World and was usually done to grind out specific rewards that didn’t require completing the entire quest.
