New Frontier Pass Announced For Civilization VI

Published:

New Frontier Pass is bringing the well-known battle pass feature to Sid Meier’s Civilization VI.

The team behind Civilization VI made the announcement via Twitter earlier today. In the attached video, we get an exciting glimpse of what’s to come from various members of the development team. Thankfully, it seems they’re all self-isolating and working from home, too!

This announcement will come as welcome news to anyone who plays Civilization VI for a number of reasons. Firstly, it ensures that 2K will be continuing support for the game. With the recent announcements from DICE that both Battlefield V and Battlefront II are losing this, a game like Civilization VI  could be considered under threat given its age. This support also comes in the form of both free and paid content, as well as the quality of life fixes. It’s hard to complain about that!

Secondly, it’ll include six new game modes! If you enjoyed the Red Death Scenario, released last September, then this will certainly excite you. Red Death brought a hint of battle royale to Civilization VI and layered post-apocalyptic themes throughout the traditional gameplay. Lead Designer Anton Strenger seemed to hint that this would be explored further throughout the next year via the New Frontier Pass.

The big news to come out of the New Frontier Pass announcement, though, is the new Civilizations coming to Civilization VI.

So far, the first two packs have been announced. Pack one will bring Maya and Gran Colombia to the table, along with new City-States and Natural Wonders! Pack two plans to introduce Ethiopia, including a new District and Building options.

All the content from the New Frontier Pass will arrive through six bi-monthly DLC packs. Pack one is dropping later this month, and they will continue through to May 2021!

Persona Packs Coming To Civilization VI… But What Are They?

From the looks of it, these packs will also be available to purchase separately, so don’t fret if you’re not a huge fan of all the content being added. Civilization VI does have an incentive set up for those in doubt…

Teddy Roosevelt and Catherine De Medici will both be receiving Persona Packs through the second content drop in July, exclusively for New Frontier Pass holders! These offer up number of changes to each leader. New appearances, gameplay bonuses, and an updated agenda will all change the way you use America and France in the future.

It also worth noting that some of the new content will require the previous DLC packs to play. Gathering Storm and Rise and Fall are both well worth the money to fans of the series, but this does make the initial purchase of the New Frontier Pass a bit much…
