No Nintendo Direct In June

Over the last week or so, there have been rumors that a new Nintendo Direct will be coming in June. The current coronavirus pandemic has caused industry events such as E3 and Gamescom to be cancelled, and many developers have decided to go ahead with their own virtual events anyway. Microsoft are due to reveal new information on the Xbox Series X on May 7th with another reveal expected in June. There is also word that Sony will be officially revealing the Playstation 5 soon, and other companies such as Activision, EA & more are expected to do their own virtual presentations.

During E3, Nintendo always do a Direct and Treehouse presentation, and it was expected that we would get the same this year, too. Due to the current pandemic, Nintendo has seen many of its first party games delayed, giving them little content to show off if they were to do a Nintendo Direct. We could have expected to see a strong focus on the Super Mario franchise with the 35th anniversary being this year. It’s also strongly rumored that Super Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy and Mario 3D World are being remastered, and a new Paper Mario game is in development.

There is currently no word on if they’ve been delayed or if they’re even being made. But it seems that if they are being developed, it’s too early to reveal and give us a release date. Unless it’s confirmed in the coming days, I wouldn’t expect a Nintendo Direct to be coming in June.
