NUTURN defeated Version1 in a truly impressive and exciting Best of 3! After a first map where it looked like the match would be in favour of the North American team. However, the second and third maps were really tight and in the end, the Korean team came out on top. We interviewed NUTURN Lakia about this series and talked about the tournament in general.
Below is the full transcript, where my questions are written in bold, and Lakia’s response is written in a standard font.
How do you feel about the technical pauses that have occurred at the event so far?
So yeah, technical pauses they do affect the team state of players when they are on stage, so I think that it probably did affect few outcomes in the games.
Why does the team an the region alltogether not play Viper as much as Europe or NA does?
So we do realize that viper is actually a good pick, but being used to this comp that we’ve brought into masters and not having that much time to prepare for something new, we’re sticking to what we’re used to and maybe in the future we might be using Viper a little bit more.
How does the NA style of play differ from other regions at this event?
So NA has a very different comp compared to all the other regions, so when we try to take a site they’re able to effectively close down the site and it’s very hard for teams like us to penetrate into so that I think it’s the biggest difference with NA comps.
How does the LAN environment effect you both positively and negatively?
We’re actually very comfortable playing in a LAN or offline environment because in Korea we had numerous tournaments and several matches playing offline so it doesn’t really affect our gameplay.
What team do you think looks the strongest so far?
Having seen Sentinels play yesterday I think it’s going to be Sentinels, we came thinking that all the reagions would have strong teams but Sentinels really sends out.
How did your clutch on 11-11 on Ascent changed the series?
I think that looking back I just played as I used to and I think I got a little bit lucky and the outcome was really positive!
How did your previous LAN experience during the First Strike helped you to recover the series today?
I don’t think it effected how we came back, I don’t think being in a offline environment really effected the outcome of the game.
During the first map, the match seemed to be one-sided, but with the second and third map, you managed to show everyone the opposite, what changed in the strategy that allowed you to win despite the matches being so close?
I think the biggest difficulty we had from map one was that we really struggled to adapt to NA and EU style of play on Haven, but for the other two maps, it was something we prepared for and something we had practised for.
How do you feel after winning this important match against V1?
Even for me, it’s kinda difficult to take it in right now, I can’t believe this really happened. We clutched in the most important rounds in map 2 and 3 and that’s something that’s really difficult to do. I still can’t believe we’ve done it and we won!
What is your mindset as a team for getting this comeback that seemed very difficult for you, what was your mindset at the time of the match?
We tried to play as we are used to, as always; we tried to calm our nerves and we played as if it was practice or a scrim and that’s how we got here.
Is there a specific team you would like to go against in the final if you reach it?
Actually I wanted to play Sentinels but since we’re playing against them in the next round already I’m pretty happy just facing them.
MOBA, Open World, FPS, RPG and so much more! I appreciate any game with a good story behind it! Nowdays I write articles about games and competition but also organize and manage Esport tournaments.
"Aha, 42, I knew it! Now - er, what was the question again?"
