According to a leaker, Overwatch 2 has been delayed. Here’s all we know about when Overwatch 2 might be coming…
Back at BlizzCon on November 1st, 2019, Blizzard announced the sequel to Overwatch, which would feature a focus on replayable player versus environment (PvE). Blizzard has been quite silent on the development of the game, however an Overwatch leaker, who goes by the name of Metro, told Dexerto that progress on the game has been quite slow and that Overwatch 2 would be delayed.
“I heard things, I heard that they’re really f***ing slow and that they’re delaying it, I heard they’re really slow at developing it,” he said. “From what I heard, it doesn’t sound good at all, it sounds like it’s very far off.”
This may come as a disappointment to many fans, as during an interview with IGN, Jeff Kaplan has stated that Echo will be the last hero they will release until Overwatch 2 is released. With Overwatch 2 delayed, fans will simply need to stick with Overwatch until BlizzConline, a virtual-only event in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Scheduled for February 19-20, 2021, we can expected to see Overwatch 2 make an appearance, however, Jeff Kaplan has stated back in December that the game “still has a ways to go.” Metro has also stated that Overwatch 2’s appearance will likely be limited because “there’s not much to show.” According to him, we can expect to see some new heroes to make an appearance, but nothing substantial, since “there’s not much to show.”
Though, it is best to take the news of Overwatch 2 delayed with a grain of salt, as there is no official confirmation from Blizzard itself, and that the game itself didn’t have a release date to begin with. However, it is worth noting that Metro did correctly leak Overwatch 2’s announcement at BlizzCon.
Overwatch still gets regular patches and has recently added a new Deathmatch map, Kanezaka, and with it comes challenges that players can complete for rewards.
