Play the meta, understand the meta, be one with the meta, you can’t fight the meta, join the meta, let the meta flow through you and into all of your games…
What on earth am I on about… Find out how to use the current Apex LegendsMeta to your advantage, and rank up before the end of the season!
What is “meta”
To get us started on the topic of meta, you need to be aware of what we mean when we say it. Hopefully, if you have spent any time playing competitive games based on a player vs player style of combat or competition, you will know what meta means, or at least have the general concept of playing a specific and effective way to maximise the likelihood of success.
Meta often refers to the style of play or choice of tactic that is seen as the most likely strategy to secure a win. Some may be surprised to know it isn’t just games like League of Legends and DOTA 2, that have a meta. Apex Legends has a meta. Below, I want to break down a tier list of champions, including every playable champion as of right now (November 14th 2019), then also touch on some of the best weaponry in the game at this moment in time. Hopefully, you can go forward into ranked games with this knowledge and use it to your advantage to rank up.
Who to play
Unsurprisingly, the first choice you make each time you build a lobby is one of the most important. With 11 champions to choose from, you can split the lot into four categories.
Offensive Legends: (Bangalor, Wraith, Mirage and Octane)
Your high mobility, full of tricks in their kit, shoot ’em and loot ’em style legends. These guys dominate the higher tiers as you can count on the high mobility and kit to get you in and out of the fights you want.
Defensive Legends: (Gibraltar, Caustic and Wattson)
Your tanks, the meat shields, the good old trusty bullet sponges! You don’t need to dodge bullets when you can soak them up with big shields and just keep walking forward while your enemies run out of ammo and flee!
Unfortunately, as much as I love these three meaty monsters, they don’t often make it to top tier, with rumors of them massively dropping off next season.
Support Legends: (Lifeline and Pathfinder)
Safe to say that these are two of the best legends you can ever ask to be locked in by a random joining your lobby. With useful kit and fairly sprightly play, especially Pathfinder, these two champions are both able to hold top tier status.
If you want to rank up and you are solo, Pathfinder is one of the strongest picks and has been since Apex launched. If you are playing with buddies, do the squad a favor and grab Lifeline.
Recon Legends: (Bloodhound and Crypto)
I am loving playing Crypto at the moment and banked a lot of wins on Bloodhound. Bloodhound can hold a tier 2 spot. If you get really comfy with his kit, you can make some sweet solo plays with him.
Unfortunately, Crypto brings up the tail end of the tier list, but on that note, he is lots of fun. That’s why we play the game, right? Wait, we’re here for ranked points! Let’s get back to it!
Legends in summary
Bangalore, Wraith, Pathfinder, Lifeline,
Bloodhound, Gibraltar, Octane, Mirage,
Caustic, Wattson, Crypto,
Which weapons secure wins?
To really play the meta, there is so much we could go into and break down regarding weapons in Apex. Without writing a 500 page book, here are a few things to remember:
Guns don’t kill people, attachments do! That’s right; get comfy with some of the top tier guns listed below, but remember that they’re ten times more powerful when you find the right attachments.
Flatline with the Anvil Receiver hop up is a lethal assault rifle and attachment combo. With a tight spray and high damage, the time to kill on this duo will leave your enemies wondering what hit them.
P2020 with the hammer point rounds hop up is simply underrated and and incredible combination. “But it’s only a pistol,” I hear you cry. Regardless, it has devastating, shield-breaking, skull-piercing power! Pair it with any sniper if that’s your play style!
G7 Scout and the Double Tap hop up. Before the Double Tap, the G7 was everyone’s last pick to have in hand out of many of the guns, let alone the snipers. Now get this beautiful pair together and you will be taking opponents down at range in no time. Just be sure to compensate for that drop and get familiar with the fire rate. For dominating and overpowered levels of sniping performance, be sure to grab an Extended Light Mag and tap away!
If you want to get up close and personal, the EVA–8 and Double Tap are another good team, but in the world of shotguns, nothing beats the Peacekeeper and Choke hop up. Add to this your choice of scope and you have a lethal arsenal for those close quarter combat situations when the ring gets tiny.
To take all of this further, think about your combinations of legends and weapons. Do you want to play Octane and take a choked-out Peacekeeper right up close in the fray? Do you play Pathfinder? Find a G7 and Double Tap, then zip up to your favorite bird’s nest. You’ll be popping heads from afar for the maximum amount of points with the minimum amount of risk.
Just don’t drop hot, or maybe do, whatever…
