Playstation to Give Away Nine Indie Games and Horizon: Zero Dawn for Free

On Wednesday, Playstation announced that nine indie games will be completely free for everyone to keep forever, starting on March 25th. Additionally, Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition will be free for everyone, starting on April 19th.

The nine games are:

  • Abzu
  • Enter the Gungeon
  • Rez Infinite
  • Subnautica
  • The Witness
  • Astro Bot: Rescue Mission
  • Moss
  • Thumper
  • Paper Beast

While all of these games are free for everyone, a few are Playstation VR exclusives. Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Moss, and Paper Beast are only compatible with PSVR devices. However, they are still able to claim for those who do not have the device, if they decide to get it eventually. Rez Infinite and Thumper work both with and without the headset.

Those nine games will be available to download from March 25th to April 22nd. During those weeks, anyone, regardless of whether or not they are a Playstation Plus subscriber, will be able to download and keep these games on their PS4 or PS5 forever.

Additionally, PlayStation also announced that Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition will be free from April 19th until May 14th. The same rules apply to this game as they do for the nine indies.

All of these free games are a part of Playstation’s Play at Home Initiative which is meant to help people cope with spending more time at home due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. While the virus is slowing down due to vaccine rollout, Playstation is still going ahead with the plan to help those who still cannot leave their homes for some time.

This all started last year when Playstation announced the service by giving away Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey from April 15th until May 5th.

After that, the event lied dormant until earlier this month when the company gave away Ratchet and Clank PS4 from March 1st to March 31st. There is still time for those who want it to grab the game completely for free.

With these ten new additions to the Play at Home initiative, Playstation is gearing themselves up to have an equal competitor to Xbox’s Game Pass service.
