With each new expansion or season in Destiny 2 maximum power level also increases. The higher your power level the more activities and difficulties you can access. With the release of The Witch Queen, Guardians would want to power up as quickly as possible to reach endgame activities such as raids. So let’s break down what is the new power cap and how to quickly power up in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen.

Witch Queen Power Cap
In The Witch Queen, every Guardian will be adjusted to the power level floor of 1350. No matter what your power level was before, every character in the game and every item will have a power level of 1350.
The Witch Queen as every other expansion also has quite the room for powering up and reaching the maximum cap. These are the power caps for The Witch Queen and Season 16 that will run alongside the expansion:
Soft Cap: 1500
Powerful Cap: 1550
Pinnacle Cap: 1560
If you are unfamiliar with how power caps work in Destiny, here’s a quick rundown. Soft Cap can be reached by equipping gear that randomly drops from activities and in the open world. Powerful Cap limits the sources to acquire a higher power gear to mostly weekly challenges. Pinnacle Drops also drop from weekly challenges just fewer ones.
That’s the core concept of it. And the reason for you to reach the high power level is to be able to play all the content there is in the game. Now let’s talk about how to actually power up.
Campaign and Legendary Campaign
The main new feature when it comes to The Witch Queen campaign is that missions are replayable and have two difficulties: Classic and Legendary. Legendary Campaign is more challenging has better rewards and will award you a set of blue 1520 gear to give you a solid boost. The gear set is blue with intentions of being used as infusion material for your old set that might have good stats.
But if you are not up for the challenge, the Classic campaign will also help you more than enough to reach the soft cap. In my case, as soon as I finished The Witch Queen campaign on the Classic difficulty I had just hit the 1500 soft cap and can now move on to acquiring powerful gear.
Weekly Challenges (Powerful and Pinnacle Drops)
After reaching the soft cap you will unlock quite a few weekly challenges. Some of the weekly challenges are also available from the very beginning. Weekly challenges can easily be found on the Destinations map. They are marked as golden stars near activities and locations. Once you hover over them you will see the requirements and rewards. The challenges are individual for each character in case you are aiming to power up more than one.
The Witch Queen and the whole of Destiny 2 offers a variety of challenges to power up. Below is the list with the majority of the challenges currently available in the game and their rewards:
Complete bounties for Basnhee-44, Zavala, Drifter and Shaxx (Powerful Gear)
Complete runs of The Wellspring (Powerful Gear)
Gain reputation with Fynch (Powerful Gear)
Defeat Champions in PsiOps Battlegrouns playlist (Pinnacle Gear)
Open Runic Chests in the Season of the Risen Battlegrounds playlist (Powerful Gear)
Complete “Grasp of Avarice” dungeon (Pinnacle Gear)
Complete Dares of Eternity (Powerful Gear)
Complete Dares of Eternity with a high score (Pinnacle Gear)

Complete the Vault of Glass raid (Poweful Gear)
Complete Vanguard Strikes using the same subclass as the currently active elemental burn (Pinnacle Gear)

Complete Nightfall Strikes with a score higher than 100,000 (Pinnacle Gear)
Play Gambit matches (Pinnacle Gear)
Play Crucible Control matches (Pinnacle Gear)

There are a few more revolving around temporary playlists like Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner but we hope you understand the concept now. If you don’t see some of the challenges from the list in the game you probably haven’t unlocked them yet. Make sure to complete The Witch Queen campaign, seasonal quests, and side quests to make sure everything is unlocked.
Paraversal Hauls from Dares of Eternity
All the content from Bungie’s 30th Anniversary is still in the game and doesn’t have any plans on leaving. Xûr still hosts Dares of Eternity offering vast riches and rewards from all across the paraverse.
If you are still curious whether Paraversal Hauls will give you a power boost, my answer is: not really. Paraversal Hauls will only be useful to even out your current gear. For example, you have some pieces 1410 and some 1380. Using a Paraversal Haul will help you to get a 1410 replacement for those 1380 pieces. In this case, the best moment to use them would be on higher power levels when finding gear to even everything out becomes not that easy.
You can buy Paraversal Hauls from the Starhorse at the Eternity for 7 strange coins or get them as a reward for completing Starhorse bounties. Strange coins, on the other hand, can be acquired by completing runs of Dares of Eternity.
The Witch Queen and Season of the Risen launches at the same time which means the seasonal artifact will be available for you to get straight away. After completing the first introductory mission of The Witch Queen campaign you will be granted a Synaptic Spear, this season’s artifact.
With seasonal artifact automatically equipped, you can now start farming XP to level it up. XP comes from completing activities, handing in bounties, and completing seasonal challenges. Each level up grants a constant +1 power bonus. More levels, more power, and you will reach the powerful cap in no time.
These are the main ways how to power up in the new Destiny 2 expansion: The Witch Queen. Don’t forget to turn in your bounties for extra XP and complete weekly challenges for high power drops!
