Riot Games and Bungie Team Up To Sue Cheat Maker

Riot Games and Bungie team for lawsuit

Riot Games and Bungie filed a lawsuit in California on Friday against cheat website GatorCheats claiming that it cost the developers millions of dollars. Let’s take a look at what we know so far.

According to an article published by Polygon with the complete lawsuit, GatorCheats is facing a joint lawsuit from both Riot Games and Bungie for selling cheats to their respective games Valorant and Destiny 2 along with supplying exploits for a number of other games. The lawsuit alleges that Cameron Santos owner of GatorCheats is guilty of the selling of “a portfolio of malicious cheats and hacks” to players through back channels.

The lawsuit notes that since both games are free to play and therefore their companies earn money via the sale of virtual in game products. This system only succeeds if the games can attract and maintain a large enough player base who are willing to invest money into the games and the presence of cheats works against this.

GatoeCheats has sold its software through the website, Telegram and Discord for quite a while. Prices for cheats could range from $90 per month to $500 dollars for lifetime access.

Bungie had initially filed Cameron Santos with a cease-and-desist order in November 2020 after which he removed the Destiny 2 cheats from his site. However following this he promised his customers he would continue support the previously sold copies of GatorCheat. They also believe he still provides the cheats privately.

This is hardly the first time developers and publishers have gone after cheaters. Over the last few years we have seen Pokemon GO developer Niantic settling in court with cheat Maker Global++ for $5 million according to TorrentFreak, To the various ones Nintendo, Activision, Ubisoft and Epic games have been involved in.

At the moment the GatorCheats website has been taken down and labelled but only time will tell what the final result will be for the company and it’s fellow cheating companions.
