Last month, George Floyd was killed by police, sparking global outrage and protests for justice for George and equality for black people. It has been more than 2 weeks and the protests are still ongoing. During this time, many companies have come out to pledge their support to Black Lives Matter and to stand alongside them in the fight for equality. It turns out that Riot Games executive Ron Johnson isn’t one of those people.
On his personal Facebook profile, he uploaded a picture detailing George Floyd’s numerous crimes, also making the outlandish claim that Floyd was on his way to kill your own kid.
In the post, Ron Johnson stated;
“This is no reason to condone his killing by the officer at all, which still needs to be investigated as a potential crime.
It is a learning opportunity for people (and your kids) to teach that this type of criminal lifestyle never results in good things happening to you or those around you.”
Shortly after this post was discovered, Riot Games put out a statement via Vice saying;
“We’ll say firmly that the sentiment in that image is abhorrent, against our values, and directly counter to our belief that addressing systemic racism requires immediate societal change.”
As of right now, Ron Johnson has been put on leave pending an investigation. With the world being in outrage over the killing, and the thousands of other people who are killed or abused by police this year, this is not the sort of press any company wants to have.
