Roger Craig Smith is currently the longest running English Sonic voice actor, and now that he’s returned to the role, it seems that record will continue on for a while longer.
He started in Sonic Colors, which was released in 2010, meaning that Roger had voiced Sonic for the entirety of the decade, including crossovers such as the Super Smash Bros. series.
While initially, his portrayal of Sonic the Hedgehog was mixed, Roger Craig Smith continued to dedicate himself to the role, even making the effort to be a part of the Sonic Community.
Based on the feedback and responses from the tweet announcing his return, many fans are glad that he’s back to take on the mantle of Sonic. And based on Roger’s own love for the character, he’s quite happy to be back and will continue to do so until his retirement (or until Sega decides to drop him again, which would be unfortunate).
It is still unknown why he was let go from the role earlier this year, but the decision to reverse could have been due to negative fan feedback from the initial announcement. Whatever the reason, we’ll be hearing Roger again as Sonic in future appearances in the meantime.
