Nintendo has announced an Amiibo figure for the upcoming Skyward Sword HD, the is a Switch port of the 2011 Wii game. The Amiibo features Zelda with her Loftwing as they appear in the game, and offer some features that will be useful in the game.

In the video that Nintendo tweeted out scanning the Zelda & Loftwing Amiibo will allow you to transition between the surface and the sky from anywhere, which means you are no longer restricted to using Loftwing Statues in order to traverse between them.

While this is a nice quality of life addition to the game, it’s questionable why it would be locked between a paywall. Being that there were many complaints about Skyward Sword and that fixing these tiny grievances would put the HD port in a better light, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have this feature included in the game itself.

Nintendo hasn’t announced a price on the Amiibo, but it is due to launch on the same day as The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD releases, which is on July 16 of this year. The Zelda themed Joy-Cons will also be releasing that day, as well.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is a Switch port of Skyward Sword, which was originally released as part of Zelda’s 25th Anniversary. The HD port will be releasing as part of Zelda’s 35th Anniversary and more Zelda is expected later this year.

While the info on more Zelda 35th Anniversary comes from an insider source, Nintendo themselves has announced that more information will be coming for the sequel to Breath of the Wild, so we can be sure to see that later this year, perhaps during E3.
