Smite Cthulhu is finally here! A character based on Cthulhu, the cosmic entity created by H. P. Lovecraft, has arrived as a playable God in Smite. Smite is a free-to-play, third-person, MOBA available on PC, PS4, XONE, and Switch.

Table of Contents

  • Smite Cthulhu can Prey on Fear with his passive ability
  • Sanity Break, The Mire, and Rushing Terror all add to Cthulhu’s lethality
  • Descend Into Madness with Smite Cthulhu’s Ultimate

Smite Cthulhu can Prey on Fear with his passive ability

This passive stacks Torment on opponents while also inducing Insanity. This stacks when Cthulhu uses an ability or during the final hit of a basic attack chain. He also gains Magical Power when near an enemy god suffering from Insanity.

Smite Cthulhu
The in-game model isn’t half bad.

Sanity Break, The Mire, and Rushing Terror all add to Cthulhu’s lethality

Sanity Break is a huge energy blast that damages all enemies hit and inflicts Attack Speed Slow. Enemies hit with this also deal reduced damage towards Cthulhu for six seconds. It applies one stack of Torment, but this is doubled if they’re facing Cthulhu.

The Mire allows players to create a slowing field via summoned portal. The portal then fires out two corrupted masses at The Mire. This damages and slows enemies further, stacking one stack of Torment per hit.

Rushing Terror is the ability you need if you want to initiate or flee from combat. It creates two projectiles either side of Cthulhu as he charges forward. This does damage, stuns, AND knocks back enemies. Each hit also deals one stack of Torment.

Descend Into Madness with Smite Cthulhu’s Ultimate

This ability reveals the true form of Lovecraft’s horror. In Smite terms, anyway. This ultimate ability damages all enemies nearby and gives the player increased health and access to new abilities. Enemies gain stacks of Torment if they’re near Cthulhu, this increasing in pace if they’re facing him. It also inflicts the Sanity Break debuff.

Sever, Devastate, and Transfuse are the three alternate abilities gained while in this form.

Sever and Devastate both deal massive damage via projectiles and energy blasts while Transfuse acts as a healing ability. Transfuse takes some of your own life force and uses it to buff your allies while also debuffing enemies nearby.
