Fishing is one of the more popular mini-games within the world of Stardew Valley. Not only can it pass the time in your in-game days quicker but, if done correctly, it can be highly profitable.
With an abundance of different fish on offer to catch, this guide is going to show you how you can get your hands on the Sunfish in Stardew Valley, one of the more common fish within the game.
How to catch a Sunfish in Stardew Valley
The Sunfish is a river fish, found in various rivers in Pelican Town and Cindersap Forest.
Some players have been lucky and been able to find it on the Wilderness Farm Map when they selected that plot at the beginning of their playthrough.
The Sunfish, like its name, prefers sunnier conditions. It is available to catch throughout the season of Spring and Summer during, you guessed it, sunny days. It can also be caught if the day is windy.
It’s not a night fish and is only available to catch during 6 AM and 7 PM.
It is also possible to catch the Sunfish in any weather, season or at any time if you use Magic Bait while out fishing.
If Sunfish was the first fish you caught when you received the Bamboo Pole from Willy then it can sometimes be available in other areas of the map.
Still struggling to catch a Sunfish?
Even though the Sunfish is one of the more common fish, it can still sometimes be hard to obtain.
Keep checking Garbage Cans throughout the seasons of Spring and Summer, occasionally Sunfish can be found in them.
You can purchase Sunfish from the Traveling Cart during Spring and Summer, but this can be one of the pricier options. They will cost between 100 – 1000g.
Is Sunfish needed for anything?
Sunfish are needed to complete the River Fish Bundle in the Fish Tank at the Community Center. Once this bundle is complete, you’ll be rewarded with 30 x bait.
It is used in various different recipes. Baked Fish needs Sunfish in particular and will not work with any other recipes.
Other recipes that Sunfish can be used in is:
- Maki Roll
- Quality Fertilizer
- Sashimi
Sunfish can be used on the Sewing Machine located at 2 Willow Lane, Emily’s and Haley’s house, to create the Fish Shirt. It can also be used to make an orange dye.
One Sunfish may be requested through the “Help Wanted” board situated outside Pierre’s General Store. You’ll be rewarded with 90g and 150 Friendship points from whoever requested the fish.
Demetrius and Willy may also request between 1 – 4 Red Snappers on the “Help Wanted” board. They’ll reward 30g for each fish and they let you keep them, bonus.
