The Steam Summer Sale is now live, so if you’ve been wanting to buy some cheap games you’ll never play, now is your chance. But in addition to great prices on games, Valve have also launched the Steam Point Shop.
The shop essentially lets you redeem points earned from purchases for items such as backgrounds, stickers, avatars, emoticons etc. Points are earned at the rate of 100 points for $1 spent on Steam. You can earn points from anything sold on Steam, whether it’s games, DLC, applications, soundtracks etc. There are some seasonal rewards such as the “Summer Golden Profile”, which turns your entire profile gold for 30 days. Most of the items, however, are from games, such as Doom Eternal, Witcher 3, Resident Evil 2 etc.
Points can also be used on “Community Awards”, such as for reviews or user-generated content. You can also gain badges, too, such as the Patron badge for granting awards for user-generated content and the Contributor badge for granting awards for user reviews.
Steam points don’t expire, either, so you can save them up to get something you really want. I clicked on the point shop and had 2,664 points already, so I got this cool Resident Evil 3 background.
