Super Nintendo World opening delayed, won’t be opening this summer as originally planned.
Universal Studios and Nintendo have been working together on the Super Mario-themed theme park; they had hoped to have everything ready to go before the Tokyo Olympics this summer. The park was announced in 2015, and construction started in 2017, three years ago! Obviously, we now know the Olympics are being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, our worst Super Nintendo World fears have now been confirmed…
Super Nintendo World Opening Delayed, Maybe Until 2021
Universal Studios Japan confirmed the news today that the park will not be opening in the summer. The announcement was made through Japan’s largest financial newspaper and follows warnings from May that delays may occur. Let’s be real for a second; this isn’t a huge surprise given the current situation…
Theoretically, Super Nintendo World could still open in 2020 at some point. Not a lot of detail has been given on the opening date, yet. Nikkei has, however, reported that the opening could be delayed until next year, depending on the situation. This would see an opening more in-line with the Tokyo Olympics, as per the original plan.Â
It seems as if most of the construction on Super Nintendo World is complete, but that doesn’t mean the park is ready to open. In recent weeks, we’ve seen that Goombas, Yoshi, and Koopa Shells are part of the park’s decor. Also, in the tweet below, you can see some spinning coins! Madness, really.
