What is The Boss doing in your bottom lane with Omnistone? Support Sett is gaining some traction on the Rift with op.gg showing 47% of picks during 10.8 in the support role. Here’s why and how you, too, can start breaking faces.
Evil Genius’ Tristan ‘Zeyzal’ Stidam shows what Support Sett can achieve in the the hands of a pro
Let’s start with what makes Sett a viable support. He’s seen play all around the map in top, mid, jungle and now support. He brings a lot to the table with two forms of hard crowd control, tons of damage and a fair amount of tank stats. All this makes for a solid tank support that will make the enemy think twice before engaging.
Part of Sett’s passive is “Heart of the Half-Beast” which gives him health regen based on missing health. The enemy duo will have a difficult time forcing Sett out of lane, and he’ll soak up damage whilst his ADC farms up.
Sett’s E, “Facebreaker”, will also give the enemy duo nightmares as you threaten to stun their carry if they step too close to their own minion wave. Landing a stun will allow you to pull off a combo, hopefully followed up by your own ADC. If this doesn’t kill the enemy, it’ll make them think twice before trying to farm next time.
The ultimate, “The Show Stopper”, can be a game changer, a point and click suppress that can be used flexibly. You can choose to engage a fight by bringing an enemy carry into the rest of your team to burst down or peel for your ADC by throwing a particularly sticky Jax out. You should also remember that this ability’s damage also scales off the bonus health of the target, so you’ll hit extra hard against enemy tanks.
All the Keystones
“Prototype: Omnistone” works on Sett because of the flexibility it offers. His kit allows him to run most keystones and work efficiently. You’ll find yourself brawling with “Conqueror”, tanking hits with “Aftershock” or even running down the enemy with “Phase Rush”.
The Inspiration tree also allows Sett access to “Hextech Flashtraption” and “Minion Dematerializer” which are both great on Sett. Use “Hextech Flash” to make plays from the fog of war on the unsuspecting enemy. “Nimbus Cloak” and the speed boost from Sett’s Q will reliably burn an enemy summoner spell or net a kill. “Minion Dematerializer” will allow you to secure cannon minions without exposing yourself to unnecessary poke, meaning you’ll be healthy enough to fight the enemy on your own terms.
Still The Boss
Sett can build items just as flexibly as he can change keystones. It’ll depend on what your team needs. You can go tanky, dishing out Crowd Control with Gargoyle’s Stoneplate, Righteous Glory and Knight’s Vow. A Spirit Visage will combo well with his passive, increasing his health regen. Build a Sunfire Cape if you want to add some damage, as you’ll be able to activate “Immolate” with “Facebreaker” and “The Show Stopper”.
If your team needs a carry, don’t be afraid to step up and bring Trinity Force, Blade of the Ruined King and Sterak’s Gage with you.
Whichever item path you choose to take, remember to start with Steel Shoulderguards when you first leave the fountain. It offers some premium stats for Sett that mean you’ll be tanky and deal damage in lane. As a support, you’ll also need to win the vision battle so “Pauldrons of Whiterock” will be invaluable.
Bring Sett to the bot lane to break some hearts and faces. Just remember to buy some control wards. Getting kills is great, but you are the support.
