T1 finalized their VALORANT roster with the signing of Ha “Spyder” Jung-woo today, after signing Sam “DaZeD” Marine on Monday. Spyder previously played for the Florida Mayhem of the Overwatch League, and announced his retirement earlier this week. His switch to VALORANT has came right at the end of the 2020 Overwatch League season.
T1 released Victor “Food” Wong and Austin “Crashies” Roberts on September 3 after disputes within the team, performance issues and a leaked Steam message between the players talking negatively about Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham. The two players now play for Team Envy. For the past month, T1 was operating with just three players under contract. The roster is now Spyder, DaZeD, Braxton “Brax” Pierce, Skadoodle, and Kevin “AZK” Larivière.
The last tournament that T1 participated in was the Pop Flash Invitational on August 27, where they fell to Envy and placed just 7th overall. It is kind of unknown right now what event they will participate in next though, with Riot announcing the First Strike Global Tournament to begin at some point in late October.
There weren’t many better aimers in the Overwatch League than Spyder. His Widowmaker was one of the best in the league in his time there, and his training on VALORANT has made him a huge pickup for T1.
DaZed has a CS:GO background. 31, he is one of the older players on a pro VALORANT team. His addition seemed to be coming more than what Spyder’s addition did. He played with Brax, AZK and Skadoodle on the iBUYPOWER team that was banned from Valve majors due to a match-fixing scandal in 2014. He is familiar with the members of the team.
