Team Fortress 2 Update To Help Fight In-Game Abuse

Published:

It’s a game that doesn’t seem to want to die. Another Team Fortress 2 update has been issued by Valve today. It aims to help protect players by offering new ways to block and report, alongside other restrictions.

Team Fortress 2 is one of those games that almost everyone has played at some point. It’s arguably the forefather of role-based competitive multiplayer, offering a possible inspiration to titles such as Overwatch. Saying that, it is very old. It was first released in 2007 as a part of the Orange Box bundle with Half Life 2 and Portal. Yeah, it’s THAT old. Still, Valve have continually been supporting the title despite fans calls for sequels to their titles.

Now, in the wake of calls for gaming companies to crack down on abuse and harassment… Valve have issued an update that contains features which should help with this. Read the full patch notes here.

Team Fortress 2 Update Restricts Voice Messaging

Firstly, if you are playing on an account that can’t chat, you can no longer send voice messages. This will, with any luck, combat the spam bot problem TF2 seems to have. These bot accounts would join games and spam the in-game chat with racist language. A previous update added new ways to report this, with this update fine-tuning the system with any luck.

The second main feature will aid the game’s kicking process. Anyone who doesn’t vote during this will be considered a ‘yes’ vote. This will help people remove those who are acting abusively in their games. Despite Valve reporting that the team working on TF2 isn’t big at all, it’s good to see that they are still considering their players’ safety.

Team Fortress 2 Update
Team Fortress 2 is currently free-to-play on steam, with these two updates being the first two in a while that have come in such quick succession.
