Right now, the Epic Games store is offering its players the chance to grab Darksiders AND Darksiders II for free.
Until January 9th at 16:00, Epic Games has made Darksiders Warmastered Edition, and Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition, free for players alongside Ubisoft’s winter sports-focused Steep.
The series is unique in the fact that it’s games all run parallel with one another story-wise. Personally, I love the opportunity to see the same events from varying perspectives. Not to mention, it’s a post-apocalyptic hack-and-slash. What’s not to love about that? Both games follow the stories of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and their involvement in a ferocious war between Heaven and Hell.
What’s Darksiders About?
The protagonist of Darksiders is War, the first of the Four Horsemen. He is killed in battle and ultimately blamed for starting the apocalypse on Earth. You’d think that would be a good thing, given the whole Horsemen deal. But, alas not. Instead, he vows to uncover the truth and find the true cause of the apocalypse.
Epic Games is offering the chance to play the updated Warmastered Edition of the game. This version of the game is primarily a graphical update with the performance improvements that come with any remaster.
How About Darksiders II?
Where Darksiders II is different is from the perspective of the story. The protagonist of this one is Death, a second of the Four Horsemen. Convinced that War is innocent, Death takes it upon himself to turn back the clock on the apocalypse. Death has to revive the whole human race and erase all signs of any wrong-doing.
Much like the Warmastered Edition is offered for the first installment, Epic Games offers up the Deathinitive Edition of the second. Much like the first game, it comes with the usual improvements. It also includes all previously-available DLC. This includes Argul’s Tomb and The Abyssal Forge. Sounds spooky, right?
If you like the first two, the third installment of the game should be right up your alley. Darksiders III gives players the chance to follow the story of another Horseman. This time it is Fury, who is tasked with destroying the Seven Deadly Sins.
