Naughty Dog and PlayStation announced that a new free performance patch for The Last of Us Part II, that allows the game to run at 60 FPS is out now on the PS5. The patch is completely free and available to everyone who has the game on their PS5.
The announcement was made via the PlayStation blog and a small trailer was released alongside the post. The patch, officially designated as patch 1.08, allows players to toggle between playing in 30 or 60 FPS.
In addition to that, the game boasts all sorts of other visual and technical enhancements that are made via backwards compatibility. Some of those enhancements include faster load times and enhanced resolution. Between the new patch and the backwards compatibility upgrades, the game performs significantly better on PS5 compared to the PS4.
A 60 FPS patch was a highly requested feature from the Last of Us community and is just the beginning of Naughty Dog’s work on the game for the PS5. In the blog post, Arne Meyer, director of communications at Naughty Dog, said they have more in store on the PS5 that will be announced at a later date.
“The team has been digging into the PS5 hardware and the possibilities it unlocks since launch last year and we’re excited about what the future holds. This patch is just the first step of working on the PS5. We’ll let you know when we’ve got more news to share!”
The possibilities that this quote teases are exciting, as this may mean that the long awaited multiplayer mode update is on the horizon, in addition to other features and content.
The Last of Us Part II came out almost a year ago and received numerous game of the year awards and critical acclaim. With this new patch, players can have a more visually impressive playthrough on their brand new PS5.
